The government doesn't explicitly know if you have a gun or not. You know how many people I know on state medical marijuana programs who have guns and buy new guns? Laws as written that's a felony but no ones checking, there is no registry. Im pretty pro gun for the lemmy crowd but as far as I can tell the government not keeping a list.

I'm merely stating that for the "gunshow loophole" to be closed it would require all guns to be registered. The loophole is private sales not requiring background checks, but the only way to make that enforceable would be to require all guns to be registered.
