if only there were already an established species of large ungulates - ideally herbivores - to fill the niche and prevent hogs from over-expanding

You know what this continent needs? A wide ranging social apex predator that uses pack hunting techniques and controls the population of large herbivores!
In all seriousness hogs are not native to North America wolves would cull the population but what would be better if the hogs were outright removed
