One of our customers at work is Nerfherder Distribution. Thought that sounded familiar.
My first reaction the post was "huh, I don't really know what they do ... maybe this will educate me"!
The reference is from Star Wars. https://youtu.be/Q3DXMVZiVpc
Nerfs are large, horned, shaggy furred domesticated mammals. Herders... you know... herd them. And they smell. Bad.
That IRL company however, probably just used the term for fun. They are a medical device and distribution company. I think it pretty hilarious that somebody use that term for legit business.
That is an extremely deep cut, but then I can really only hear two words of dialogue and immediately place them with the TOS movies and TNG episodes. The original trilogy feels redundant after 7-9 came out.
I suppose it depends on perspective and the circles one's been a part of. To those who watched the original trilogy a bunch and/or read the many books in the Expanded Universe, the term isn't so obscure. Nerf-herder was used quite a bit. Pretty common in the Disney-owned age too. There's no denying it though. It definitely falls in the realm of "geeks." ๐
