Out of the loop here. Why am I seeing so many posts about people trying to pay stuff with coupons? Is it a new scamming trend maybe?

This is a thing sovcits do; you know the remittance stub on the bottom of bills, like cut this off and submit with your check? They think if they sign it and send it back z without any money, that that suffices as payment. It's hilarious.

It seems that SovCits believe the world is EXCRUCIATINGLY technical and legalistic, yet super basic stuff that even a child could understand (e.g., there are rules for using a service that if you don't agree to you don't have permission to use the service) for some reason doesn't count.

It's just magical thinking, but even within its own context the incantations they invoke don't really make much sense. It uses language so technical that the people invoking it don't actually know what it means, so don't realize how fucking stupid the ideas are.
