US: "Vote for the lesser evil."
Europe: "Vote for the party you want and have them still be represented either as a coalition majority or during crucial votes where every party matters."
US is more like "vote against the guy you don't want in charge"
I don't really see how the outcome is significantly different. Even when a two party system, politicians still need to form coalitions of people with widely varying ideas in order to get anything done.
Voting third party stops being a spoiler vote. Leftists get to vote for leftists, instead of having to turn their nose up and vote liberal.
Ask Bernie Sanders.
