MODERATORS

Young voters overwhelmingly say they would support President Biden over former President Trump in a hypothetical head-to-head match-up if the 2024 presidential election were held today, according to a poll released Wednesday.

In the Economist/YouGov poll — conducted via web-based interviews Dec. 16-18 — more than half (53 percent) of registered voters under 30 said they would support Biden, and less than a quarter (24 percent) said they would support Trump.

Another 10 percent said they would support another candidate, 4 percent said they were not sure, and 9 percent said they wouldn’t vote.

This entire thread is literally about how there aren't very many of "your votes"

[–] go_go_gadget@lemmy.world -2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Sounds like you think you don't need us to win the 2024 election then.

[–] SCB@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Go nuts man. I don't care at all how you vote

[–] go_go_gadget@lemmy.world -2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Alright then don't cry when you lose in 2024. And if there is another primary election in 2028 do your best not to vote for the most procorporate trash candidate yeah?

[–] SCB@lemmy.world 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Joe Biden was my first choice in the 2020 primaries. Clinton was my first choice in 2016. Buttigieg will be my first choice in 2028, most likely.

See the thing is, im part of that majority, and I agree with them.

[–] go_go_gadget@lemmy.world 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Why did you vote for Biden out of everybody else in the 2020 primaries?

[–] SCB@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I'm a big fan of Biden as a human being, and figured he'd do about the job he's currently doing given his skill at working in Congress.

His policies are generally, but not always, policies I agree with, so that clicked too.

[–] go_go_gadget@lemmy.world 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Should I take that to mean:

  1. You weren't a fan of any of the other candidates as human beings?
  2. You figured they weren't up to the job?
  3. You didn't like their policies?

You need to be more specific here. These are really vague reasons.

[–] SCB@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

1: You weren’t a fan of any of the other candidates as human beings?

No I absolutely love Booker and Buttigiege especially.

2: You figured they weren’t up to the job?

No I just preferred Biden, especially with his history both in the Senate and as VP to Obama, dealing with a very hostile Congress as I expected he would during his term.

3: You didn’t like their policies?

I do not agree 100% with any politician's policies. I think Biden is way too protectionist, as an example of a place we agree in vision.

I figure he holds those views because of his passion for "the little guy" and his generalized support of unions, but it's a place we generally disagree. You gotta take the good with the bad. Shit, Buttigieg spoke in favor of rent control and I still like him a ton. He's a good guy. He can be wrong sometimes.

Booker has more views that I don't like than most, but damn if I don't like that he can get shit done with, again, heavily entrenched interests who hate one another. He never really had a shot, but I just like the dude.

Happy to answer any more questions.

What I'm getting from this is you prefer "moderates" like Biden over progressives and leftists so you voted for Biden over everybody else because of that.

We are not on the same side.

[–] go_go_gadget@lemmy.world -1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

You're right. He's right of center.

We are not on the same side. You'd rather work with MAGA than compromise to the left.

I don't perceive us as having similar end desires, no, but the idea I'd rather side with people further from my views than closer is absurd, and born of the jealousy - you're angry that the norm is the norm and not your views. My support of Biden is proof of that - he's too protectionist, but Trump is far more protectionist, as an easy policy example.

If you want your ideas to be popular, consider trying to spread them positively.

[–] go_go_gadget@lemmy.world -1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

you’re angry that the norm is the norm and not your views

I'm not angry at all. I'm just not voting for Biden in 2024 and you're gonna be angry about that.

If you want your ideas to be popular, consider trying to spread them positively.

I've got a better idea: I'll stop propping up your shitty candidates until you're willing to compromise or this country collapses. I'm fine with either outcome.

[–] SCB@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I’m just not voting for Biden in 2024 and you’re gonna be angry about that.

I've told.you I don't care lol.

I’ll stop propping up your shitty candidates until you’re willing to compromise or this country collapses.

Nah. There aren't enough of you to matter.

[–] go_go_gadget@lemmy.world -1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Nah. There aren’t enough of you to matter.

Is that what you said in 2016?

[–] SCB@lemmy.world 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

No in 2016 I still had a lot of (now-delusional) hope that evangelicals wouldn't possibly vote for an insane boor of a man.

You didn't vote for Clinton in 16 lol

[–] go_go_gadget@lemmy.world -2 points 10 months ago

You seem incapable of putting 2 and 2 together here.
