How is that people in positions of power often seem to have no sense of humour... Or at the very least their humour is completely different to mine... Is it just an age/generational thing?

I think he don't need to mention the full address just to show him he know where he live. Street address is enough.

I believe it's a self-esteem issue. Someone that needs to enforce beliefs onto others could be very much self-aware of people 'laughing at them'. Had my fair share of colleagues like this from a wide range of age groups and cultures, unfortunately.
