Why is Microsoft announcing this and not Sony? I'm skeptical

[–] ikiru@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 year ago

They didn't quite "announce" it as much as they used it as argument or evidence in court and the document was leaked or released to the public.

How they knew beforehand? I have no idea. But it'd be a risky move to just make shit up like that in court, so it's pretty likely true.

Everything what Microsoft thinks and does is under fire due to Activision merger injunction lawsuit by FTC.

Yes, I understand that, but how does the Microsoft/Activision merger have anything to do with Sony?

[–] Saint_Bandit@retro.pizza 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

@vita_man @Jongaros Sony is fighting against the merger based on the possibility of Microsoft taking acitvision titles (such as Call of Duty) off of PlayStation and making them Microsoft exclusives. Sony arguing that a software monopoly is possible and would hurt their hardware sales.

Part of being sued in court is a process called "discovery" where a whole host of internal documents are disclosed to the opposing side.

It wouldn't surprise me, as part of the merger lawsuit, that a bunch of internal plans were revealed to both sides.

They said they expect it to happen. That's different from Sony saying it's gonna happen.
