And here we will see democrats not sell their soul to protect him and let the law play out as that is how the law works.

You got a lot more faith in these outcomes than I do.

If there's one issue Democrats are fucked up on, its cops. They love to let cops get away with shit.

That's an interesting take. Where I live Democrats are not the ones driving their huge coal rolling pickups around with thin blue line flags flying off the back. The Democrats are the ones passing measures to enforce police reform.

Like, this couldn't say any harder "The national Democratic party learned the wrong lessons from the George Floyd protests."

Where I am locally, they tied funding local cops to funding election security and funding for public defenders. So if you care about things like election security or public defenders, but don't want to fund the cops, you can go fuck yourself, because now voting against funding for cops means you're voting against election security or poor people having well funded public defenders.

I live in one of the bluest motherfucking states in the union and I live in the state capitol. This same city was one of many that was happy to let local cops brutalize and tear gas protestors during the George Floyd protests. The all-democrat city council signed off on it.

Give me a break, they're fucking limosine liberals, and any time they have to face an unruly citizenry, they piss themselves and call for the cops to protect them from the citizens they keep failing miserably.

Around here, they're trying to pass a city-wide payroll tax where roughly 50% will go to police, 30% to fire fighters, and 20% toward homeless services. They've said if the tax doesn't pass the first thing they're going to do is close the newly opened homeless shelter in a city with thousands of people living on the street.

It's astounding to me. It's like people don't realize the stranglehold the police have on democratic cities and states. They are almost always conservative and are antagonistic to the elected officials with an attitude of "If you don't let us do what we want, we won't protect you when you need it," and it seems like, for the most part, that's enough to scare democrat elected officials into stepping in line with whatever the police force wants.

I mean, on January 6th, cops pretty much just let a bunch of violent thugs with guns walk up on Washington State Governor Jay Inslee. And yet that dumb piece of shit hasn't fucking gone balls-to-the-wall on reigning in the cops in his fucking state. The cops here would let right wing thugs kill him, and he still supports them. Democrats are god damned pussies.

The Democrats are the ones passing measures to enforce police reform.

Are they? Where? If my memory serves correctly you must not be talking about Eric Adams, or Biden. Perhaps Minneapolis? West coast states/cities?

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You're getting down voted because we have a two-party system and anything negative against Democrats puts us at risk.

But you're not wrong. The Democrats are still center or center-right, and they're definitely still pro police and think that increasing police capacity somehow decreases crime. There are a couple notable exceptions, but generally that's the case.

[–] Franzia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 year ago

The only risk to democrats is if the president loses. Everybody else is fair game. And Eric Adams is surprisingly not the worst politician in office in the US, but he's pretty fucking close.
