and about 92% of them are NATO leftists who hate every AES country and think people like Vaush sound intelligent.

[-] LesbianLiberty@hexbear.net 37 points 11 months ago

I think you're cutting yourself off at the knees if you assume that. Obviously I doubt the majority are theory-hardened communists, but this obviously represents a popular swell of public opinion despite our inability to act so far on anything as "the left" in the US

[-] iByteABit@hexbear.net 19 points 11 months ago

I wonder how many of the revolutionary proletarians during the rise of communism knew their shit. Not many I guess, but they had people they followed that did, like Lenin, even if they didn't completely understand the theory or fully agreed with it.

Then again people back then didn't have a century of propaganda to deal with..

It's pretty obvious almost none of them. The Chinese civil war picked up millions of conrades along the way and there is absolutely 0 chance most, or even a significant portion of them spent weeks or months cramming a bunch of theory in their free time while working for their feudal/war lords before defecting

A lot of them just heard that the communists were promising them their own land, guaranteed nourishment for their entire family, and how much better their followers were being treated

Hexbear stop overestimating Vaush's influence challenge (impossible).

[-] BurgerPunk@hexbear.net 7 points 11 months ago

If it was not for hexbear, I don't think i wouod have ever heard of him

[-] HumanBehaviorByBjork@hexbear.net 24 points 11 months ago

come on, you know that's not true

I love talking politics with people and I have talked to A LOT of libs. Most agree that we need to tax the corporations more, the capitalists have gotten too greedy, we should spend more of the defense budget on healthcare, infrastructure etc.

Not a single one of them thinks that revolution should be anywhere on the table. And when some of them finally admit that China is doing something good, it’s only because China is not socialist, it is a capitalist country! That’s why it is able to raise the living standards of its people because they have adopted some of our capitalist policies! But unlike us, they’re totalitarians!

[-] SunriseParabellum@hexbear.net 10 points 11 months ago

Even when they support revolution it's a very sanitized one where all you gotta do is guillotine like maybe a few thousand particularly bad billionaires and then everyone else just sorta rolls with it, cuz everything will work so great then the Kulaks will be sold on socialism. People don't want to recognize the amount of militancy you need to fight regression.

They're not dedicated communists, but neither are they dedicated radlibs. If streamers are your yardstick, Vaush has 240k followers on twitter. Hasan has 1.4 million.

[-] HumanBehaviorByBjork@hexbear.net 18 points 11 months ago

Political americans, especially those of us who get more than our recommended daily intake of internet, have trouble understanding this, but most people do not care about politics as such.

[-] SunriseParabellum@hexbear.net 11 points 11 months ago

They are dedicated first worlders tho

[-] somename@hexbear.net 7 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Hasan is a first worldist? Really?

[-] SunriseParabellum@hexbear.net 6 points 11 months ago
[-] somename@hexbear.net 16 points 11 months ago

Is this a bit? It's just a normal house.

[-] SunriseParabellum@hexbear.net 5 points 11 months ago

It's a pretty nice house in fucking LA. Owning a house in a desirable part of California makes you at least a Kulak automatically.

[-] somename@hexbear.net 23 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

It's a nice house yeah, but it's just a house, and his extended family lives in it.

But yeah being a socialist means not having a house. Kulaks were Kulaks because they had homes, not because they were petty agricultural capitalists who acted against the revolution. Real theory hours.

Despite that, saying Hasan is a First Worldist is insane, regardless of whatever your house opinion of him is. He's been consistently supportive of struggles in the global south, and critical of imperial ventures.

[-] SunriseParabellum@hexbear.net 4 points 11 months ago

in LA

*North Hollywood specifically

If he got a nice condo in Long Beach or something nobody would have given a shit. I wouldn't have even given a shit if it had a roof pool.

[-] somename@hexbear.net 11 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

This is such an aesthetics focused, vibe based, reach of a criticism lol. The North Hollywood-Long Beach bourgeois housing line. He'd have the same money regardless of where he bought his house, and he'd have earned in the exact same way.

His material relationship to how he generates that money is what matters. He's not a capitalist. He's not even a petite bourgeois. The exact location of his zip code isn't a defining ideological marker.

[-] BurgerPunk@hexbear.net 7 points 11 months ago

Ideology is stored in the zip code very-intelligent

[-] SunriseParabellum@hexbear.net 3 points 11 months ago

In the US this is often literally true

[-] SunriseParabellum@hexbear.net 3 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

I was being a bit hyperbolic cuz I was feeling argumentative last night, but if you want an actual take, I think being that rich is gauche, even if you acquired it without exploitation. I think if you consider yourself a socialist but you end up loaded cuz you wrote a popular novel or something like that, you should cap your income at a certain level and give the rest away. Mind you I still put that level pretty high, like fairly successful dentist high, enough to live a kush as fuck life even in the richer parts of the imperial core, but you should still cap it.

Socialist movements of the past didn't really do a deep analysis of everyone's income to determine which rich people deserved their wealth and which didn't, if you had loads of fucking dosh while others were homeless, they'd take your shit. I think it's dumb to support that happening while not at the very least attempting to practice what you preach in the here in now, save what you need to keep you and your loved ones at a nice middle class existence and give the rest to Doctors Without Boarders or something. It's what I'd fucking do if any of the dumb SciFi stories I wrote ever got bought by Netflix and I kinda expect commie streamers to do the fucking same.

Also, fyi I think Hasan is overall more good than bad, and really the house wasn't really what pissed me off so much as his purchase of a sports car. I don't think those things should even exist as a socialist, yet you're driving one to Coachella? Get a fucking Honda Fit asshole.

[-] JohnBrownNote@hexbear.net 3 points 11 months ago

his purchase of a sports car.

i don't know when saloons became "sports cars" but the taycan is almost as stupid of a product as the hummer EV

[-] somename@hexbear.net 2 points 11 months ago

That's fair yeah.

[-] BurgerPunk@hexbear.net 6 points 11 months ago

Hey, DAE think living in a house you can afford makes you a class enemy?

[-] AllenSmithee@hexbear.net 13 points 11 months ago
[-] operacion_ogro@hexbear.net 29 points 11 months ago

"Actually existing socialism," countries where socialism is the dominant mode of production, such as Cuba.

[-] AllenSmithee@hexbear.net 12 points 11 months ago
[-] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 21 points 11 months ago

Actual existing socialism, usually a reference for states that were or are ran by a communist party that was or is attempting to build towards a socialist society with historical and material proof of that.

[-] AllenSmithee@hexbear.net 10 points 11 months ago
