Well, given that's literally not what happened, I'm not sure why that's more likely. The actual scene itself shows that Astarion is smiling in your face and doesn't show any remorse or guilt or any other feelings. He only displays those when his face is hidden from the player/cameras typical view. You don't pretend to look remorseful when no one can see you. There's no point to it.
