This was only a private GOP vote.
For the actual vote on the floor, some reps may still vote for Jordan, e.g. Boebert has said that she will vote for Jordan.
So there's still a chance that these fucktards can't rally enough votes to elect a speaker.
This whole "private vote first" relies on republicans keeping their word...
I would be incredibly surprised if the first actual vote they all voted together. There's gonna be at least one that immediately goes back on their word.
What's the record again?
15 rounds of voting I think
Those are rookie numbers!
No need for the ableist language
I understand your concern, but "Boebert" is someone's name in this case.
They clearly meant the "R" word. Republican.
Don't use the d-word on us please
lmao
I think you're going a bit overboard here.
The term "retarded" hasn't been used to describe those with special needs since probably the 80s. Maybe 90s. For better or worse, the word has long since devolved into a general-purpose insult.
Think of words like "dumb" and "idiot". Now remember that about a hundred or so years ago, these were also what were considered "proper" terms to describe those with special needs. They've long since devolved into general purpose insults. "Retarded" is in the same category.
Is there a case for bringing gay back as a word for happy?
Do we really need to be using ableist slurs like this? Cmon.
"Fucktard" is an ableist slur? Not sure I'm following. Oh, because it's similar to "retard?" So "fuckwad" is okay then?
It's not that I don't know, it's that I didn't consider it at all the same word anymore than I consider "pedophile" and "bibliophile" the same word. I don't see how "fucktard" disparages developmentally challenged people.
Honestly, that's my biggest issue. Wherever it came from, are developmentally challenged people really having an issue with it - consider it "ableist?" Not a rhetorical question, I'm completely ignorant here.
Wow, that's a total mischaracterization of what I said. I'm asking if the community who you're saying is being slurred actually considers it a slur.
Maybe? But I wasn't really asking if one person considers it a slur regardless. Generally there's a rough consensus within a community about whether a term is offensive to them or not, and a well meaning person might not know. "Midget" was a term used broadly before that community generally said we should use "little person" instead. There are loads and loads of similar examples. Black folks have dealt with a series of terms, some of which were not initially used with malice but became a slur over time.
I guess it's reasonable that this one would be offensive to people, but I honestly didn't see it. I'm a senior manager and I try too be very sensitive to those issues (not that I'd use "fucktard" at work even if it wasn't considered ableist).
Look, I've been on online communities for thirty years. I can't tell you the number of times I've seen someone say something was good or bad and they turned out to be full of crap. Some things are easy to confirm or disprove, and I usually take the time to do that, but this isn't one of those things. So yes, I was asking for some kind of confirmation. Does that mean I don't respect people with disabilities? No. I'm not defending anything, and I'm fact I don't think I've ever personally used that term myself. Breaded on the number of people downvoting in this thread (my only downvote was when you disparaged me personally), a number of other people had the same reaction.
Yeah, it's a contraction of fucking+"retard". Any other variety of fuck+x is fine. Fuckwad, fuckstick, fuckhead are all fine.
Fuckweeb?
That'll never happen.
Yeah it’s not the same as just outright saying “retard” but it’s still ableist. Fuckwad is totally fine though, however you wanna cuss is fine just now ya know
Please go outside
I typed that while sitting on a park bench and enjoying the sunshine! When have you gone outside lately? Remember: don't insult disabled people by comparing them to evil people.
VR doesn't count
Man I wish I could afford VR, must be nice for you to have that so you don’t have to go outside :((
Weird random furry policing slurs 👍 Weird random furry reporting them and getting them banned 👎
