I definitely view video games as better than reading a book. You’re engaging many more parts of your brain and actively participating in the story telling, rather than passively just reading.

I don't feel that way about aaa games, they are much more mindless than reading IMO. Reading is like 100% use of imagination too.

Unless you have that blind minds eye thing in which case ... idk for me it's about equal engagement

With many games, you need to figure out how to solve the puzzle, progress the plot, etc. With multiplayer games, you need to be able to work together and cooperate with others while doing this. I love playing my MMORPG because the story is really amazing, while the interactions with people is organic and unique, and the learning of combat and higher tier stuff is much more mentally engaging than just watching cutscenes or going from point A to B.

Sure, there’s imagination and whatnot, but there’s nothing you can do to change the story or explore the world or solve the problem for the story to continue while reading.
