Bluesky requires an invite. There's a waitlist. All of the content creators I followed didn't go to Mastodon, they went to Bluesky, and I can't follow them because I can't make an account.

I don't want to be on twitter, the same way I didn't want to be on reddit, but all the alternatives are hacky and gimmicky or limited in different ways.

Even Lemmy has huge drawbacks. Basic moderation tools are not available, the instances go down due to attacks, there's basically nobody really here, and if I go and look at my front page it's pretty much the same dozen or so posters across all the instances, which I would argue is just as bad as powerusers on reddit. In terms of regular users and general day-to-day, there's only so many conversations about Linux distros and Communism that I can have before it just starts getting repetitive and annoying.

I am on Bluesky and, to be honest, it's pretty boring. There's another app called WireMin; it's a decentralized social network. They do need to work on real-time notifications, but at least they have chat rooms, referred to as "chat space," for users to discuss. And the staff post daily jokes in their official chat space, so it's not as boring to me as Bluesky.
