Looking for recommendations on a good FOSS journal/diary app for Android. Preferably encrypted at rest. Cross-device sync isn't important for me, looking more for a thought dump than anything.

I started using Joplin recently and like it, but I'm not sure it quite fits what I'm looking for in this case

Does it encrypt at rest or only in transit? I haven't been able to find a clear answer (which makes me believe it's not)

That, I can’t tell you - I tend to move to pen and paper for anything too sensitive, so I haven’t looked too deeply into that feature

Fair enough - I hadn't even considered going old school, but that might be a good idea! Thanks for the comments

It's encrypted during transit only (if using HTTPS), though you can look into an encrypted filesystem on the server and the clients you use.

Sorry, but you are mistaken. Joplin definitely encrypts data at rest if you enable end-to-end encryption: https://joplinapp.org/e2ee/

Nice! I didn't realize this was a feature of Joplin!

It has full E2EE, the files are encrypted on your own system and whatever server you use.

edit: you just have to explicitly set it up using your own chosen keyphrase.
