Wouldn't that have to get implemented on Lemmy's side first? Voyager doesn't add any hurdles to the regular login process.
No it would be implemented by the app. The purpose is to increase security so in case someone gets ahold of your phone while it’s unlocked, they wouldn’t be able to open Voyager and get access to your account.
I see the value, but I suspect this isn't a feature Voyager needs because the only apps that have that feature are password managers, banking apps, and Telegram/Signal
that is, apps that are end-to-end encrypted and privacy-focused.
I think the value here is to add an extra layer of disconnect between me, the person and me, the lemmy user.
Someone can easily profile me, the lemmy user’s profile; but no one in real life needs to know me, the person, have a separate private lemmy account used for less than above the belt content. Having an extra layer of authentication doesn’t guarantee it, but makes it harder for someone to swipe my phone and poke into that.
That’s not completely correct. Several social apps can be set to require biometrics. For the simple reason that someone could access your account get data about what you do, your opinions where you’ve been etc.
In fact, some launchers / OSs allow you to set a biometric requirement for any app.
Yeah good point, I agree it's more important in those types of apps, but it would be nice to have.
