Matt Christmas was right when he said there’ll never be another non-impeached president again

Yep. They set a terrible precedent.

nah, this is doa and everyone will re-learn the lesson that impeachment for piddly shit is a self-own.

[–] zephyreks@hexbear.net 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Any impeachment proceeding is almost sure to pass the House and fail in the Senate.

i understand how impeachment works and i understand the congressional math. i disagree w/ the throwaway christman thesis that the US is on some terminal course of constant impeachments: it will be seen, yet again, that the benefits of impeachments redound to the impeachees party; many republicans understand this, but they are unable to discipline the flailing MAGA wing of the party.

They were already terrible presidents. kelly

Watch as every future president gets impeached for some random bullshit

[–] YouKnowIt@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago

Idk, this feels like a blue slip thing, where dems follow norms from like 40 years ago and republicans just do whatever they like with no opposition

Impeachment needs a simple majority in the House, but a super-majority to convict in the Senate. So, it trivial for the House to vote on articles of impeachment but current partisan divides (and the off-set electoral cycle of the senate) impede any faction from achieving a senatorial super-majority.

@zephyreks

@Sasuke @judgeholden

Yup, impeaching a guy for a blowjob was a horrible precedent.

The GOP when they impeached Clinton because Clinton didn't think a BJ counts as sex?
