A place to discuss privacy and freedom in the digital world.
Privacy has become a very important issue in modern society, with companies and governments constantly abusing their power, more and more people are waking up to the importance of digital privacy.
In this community everyone is welcome to post links and discuss topics related to privacy.
Some Rules
- Posting a link to a website containing tracking isn't great, if contents of the website are behind a paywall maybe copy them into the post
- Don't promote proprietary software
- Try to keep things on topic
- If you have a question, please try searching for previous discussions, maybe it has already been answered
- Reposts are fine, but should have at least a couple of weeks in between so that the post can reach a new audience

Oh boy, all my internet traffic can be forwarded through Google’s servers? Where do I sign up for this?!
Makes me cringe thinking of all those years I was using Google DNS, back when I believed that “don’t be evil” shit
Haha, yeah what idiots. Obviously we all know what dns we should be using for privacy but maybe someone should say it out loud in case someone doesn’t?
If you've got some free time and a spare computer, pihole with recursive DNS, it blocks ads and queries the root DNS servers itself (requires some extra set up though).
Other services like Quad9 are good for networks other than your home though.
I have a first get raspberry pi sitting around somewhere that needs a job, this may well be the sol. Thanks.
I currently use NextDNS, it’s cheap and works great. You can basically set it up like a pihole, so I have ad/tracker blocking across all my devices and anything on LAN.

Google: whatever you do, don't ~~google~~ search Quad9 or NextDNS
Which one?
Personally I use the cloudflare option but specifically route the DNS traffic, along with everything else that can be out a pair of tunnels rather than the WAN to merge it with everyone else using the same endpoints, but whatever solution works for you.
What do you use now?
NextDNS, been using it for a year and a half now. I like the ease of use and privacy/ad block filter options.
