"Trilobites never went extinct, we still have horseshoe crabs"

"Neanderthals never went extinct, we still have humans"

[-] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 25 points 1 year ago

If neanderthals went extinct, then explain gamers :smuglord:

[-] beautiful_boater@hexbear.net 25 points 1 year ago

I think that it is very specist to compare a normal, innocent lifeform to gamers.

[-] Moobythegoldensock@lemm.ee 8 points 1 year ago

Horseshoe crabs are not trilobites. Humans are not Neanderthals. Birds are literally avian dinosaurs.

I loved dinosaurs but having an evolutionary ancestor is not the same as being a true dinosaur.

Yes I enjoy seeing a Trex in a chicken and I enjoy seeing a Smilidon in a house cat.

You're reducing biology and taxonomy to History channel buzz phrases.

And before you ashctually me, cats have inherited their mitochondrial dna from a common ancestor of the smilodon 20 million years ago so if you wanna die on the "birds are real life dinosaurs" hill then I'll die with you on the adjacent "cats are literally mini sabre tooth tigers" hill.

"cats are literally mini sabre tooth tigers"

I mean

[-] Tastysnack@hexbear.net 8 points 1 year ago

Lmao they just aren't though and while I love em, they aren't.

[-] Tastysnack@hexbear.net 8 points 1 year ago

Okay how about this, you can say birds are dinosaurs Mondays, Wednesday and Friday, and the other days I'll say a camel is like a cow.

[-] Ram_The_Manparts@hexbear.net 6 points 1 year ago

But... I wanted to say kitties are sabre tooth tigers. powercry-1

[-] Moobythegoldensock@lemm.ee 6 points 1 year ago

Birds are literally feathered theropod dinosaurs. Look it up.

[-] Tastysnack@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago

Therapods were feathered tho, so they literally aren't feathered therapod dinosaurs. They are just dinosaurs.

Try harder sweaty.

[-] Catradora_Stalinism@hexbear.net 6 points 1 year ago

tgirls and dino facts, a dynamic duo

[-] Tastysnack@hexbear.net 6 points 1 year ago

๐Ÿ’… lmao I'm not and birds are dinosaurs technically by virtue of sharing a lot of bone structure and evolutionary traits passed down through little bird like dinosaurs.

Personally though I'd argue its reductive to look at a pigeon and go "lmao tiny dinosaur" because 65 million years of evolution and divergence didn't apparantly happen just because they have dino feet.

I've flown too close to the sun trying to get this Chud to realise his redditor comment about OPs title read like unnecessary reddit pedantry that contributes and accomplishes nothing but instead I think I've just made myself out to be a science denier ๐Ÿ˜ญ

[-] Catradora_Stalinism@hexbear.net 4 points 1 year ago

headpat its okay arguing with chuds makes all of us go cray cray sometimes

although I do see your point, you ain't delulu

[-] edge@hexbear.net 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

but instead I think I've just made myself out to be a science denier

Because you literally are denying science.

And what indicates he's a chud? The fact that he's on a different instance?

And it's not pedantic or a "redditor comment", it's a dude sharing a cool fact he thought others would like.

Shit like this is part of why autistic people have trouble socializing. We just wanna share cool facts and you act like we're being assholes for it and use that as an excuse to be assholes in return.

[-] gobble_ghoul@hexbear.net 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

TBF, dinosaurs were around for over 100 million years before the K-T boundary and diverging from each other the entire time. The time that separates birds from their ancestors is less than the time that divided ornithischians and saurischians by the end and we consider all of those definitely dinosaurs.

[-] Moobythegoldensock@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

No, not all theropods were feathered. There were extinct non-feathered theropods, as well as those with feathers only in youth. All of the currently living theropods are feathered, but this was not always the case.

[-] Tastysnack@hexbear.net 3 points 1 year ago

Well no because if therapods aren't feathered and walk on two legs then they literally are man. Omg google plato smh

[-] gobble_ghoul@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago

Most of us are a little bit Neanderthal.

neanderthals were humans. And they didn't go extinct they interbred with homo sapiens
