Good to see lemmy has already inherited the worst of reddit's issues: Shitty powertripping moderators.
I don't see an easy way to fix it
Make the community be able to vote kick or vote for new Moderators although that would maybe just make the circlejerking even worse
You'd get brigading and bot led hostile takeovers
Yes, that's very hard to implement. How do you prevent bots from voting? Thinking about it gives me headache
Modlog for all actions including every single ban and the conversation about it and a way for a user to report mod abuse to admins.
Great unless mods are the actual admins
Even worse are power tripping instance admins.
Atleast you can register to another instance and still interact as usual. Or if the admin is being obnoxious, defederate.
Mods escape all accountability.
