Got an idea for next month's banner?
Had some incredibly aggressive drivers when cycling in today... one even decided to come to a complete stop to block me, forcing me to brake (this was after they aggressively passed me beeping).... I don't know WTF is wrong with some people when they get behind the wheel
Anyway, if anyone has recommendations for cycling cameras, I'd love to hear them!
I'm using an old GoPro (Hero4) I had lying around, and bought a Kaiser Bass (cheap knock off GoPro) so had front and back covered. Works pretty well, the Kaiser is a bit jankey though.
I've previously been recommended these: https://cycliq.com/ but it's pretty pricey.
Yes, I had a look at cycliq which seems OK (although mixed reviews in some places). Doesn't seem to be available in any shops right now...
Thanks for the other recommendations... will look into a GoPro.
Sorry you had to deal with that. I wish motorists were better aware and kinder towards cyclists. These sort of incidents was basically what stopped me from buying an ebike to commute to work. If we could get dedicated and protected bike lanes, that would solve half the problem.
As for camera options, if you are the DIY type, you could make your own setup using a Raspberry Pi. Several blogs out there that have detailed the whole process, such as:
https://raspi.tv/2018/making-a-fairly-simple-bike-dashcam-with-raspberry-pi-live-project-blog-pt5-road-testing http://pidashcam.blogspot.com/
Could be an interesting project! Figuring out how to mount it would be the key... and I assume they can be powered with a rechargeable battery
Edit: The other problem is making it water proof (to some extent), both battery and board.
An old GoPro would be a good option, I believe they have the ability to record on a loop.
Something like a GoPro would work I assume?
Yes it could work... the trouble is ideally you would have front and rear, and they're not cheap!
I’m not a cyclist, but I’ve never noticed someone with both front and back cameras.
Maybe just a helmet cam then?
Rear cameras are usually tucked right under the saddle so they're pretty hard to spot.
Interesting, I’m going to look out for them now!
That's, well, thats a bit shit really. Sorry you have to deal with that.
Sorry I don't have any camera suggestions, maybe someone else will.
