I have tried a few times but just cannot enjoy this show

First half of season 1 I couldn't stand the characters, but I feel they settle down after that then it gets really good then! But to each their own!

I’ve never watched Lower Decks and probably won’t. But, the SNW crossover was one of the most entertaining shows I’ve ever seen. At least it was for me.

There was a DS9 crossover episode in LD season 3, if you’re interested.

[–] Uranium3006@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Oh you should, it's so good. Probably ties with SNW

But have you watched the strange new worlds crossover episode?

I saw that with no knowledge of Lower Decks. It was an instant favorite. My wife cares little for Star Trek but she sat down and laughed along with me.

I just watched that one, but haven't watched the LD show. I enjoyed the episode knowing what it was (especially when they cartooned the SNW crew) but I'm not sure if I'd enjoy the show, they were quite annoying and didn't respect the chain of command enough 😂

What is it that you don’t like?

[–] incendiaryperihelion@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I think it was largely a miss with the humor for me. It seemed like it was mostly just referential humor, just kind of "hey I watched star trek" but without substance. I dont love the animation style either, but that's not been an issue for me in the past so long as the writing was entertaining enough

[–] StillPaisleyCat@startrek.website 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It struggled with that the first half season, but it found its own voice over time.

The fact that it’s found and retained its own dedicated fanbase who have no prior experience of Trek is evidence enough that it stands on its own.

Every single Star Trek series from TNG onward struggled in the beginning and took a season or two to really find itself. It's basically the shape of TV Trek.

Agree totally. Which is why I have a certain exasperation for those who gave Lower Decks and Prodigy a couple of episodes and then decided it’s not for them.
