I previously made a thread here about alternative front-ends for Android and Squawker was among the ones I listed. It is an open-source Twitter front-end for Android, but sadly it stopped working that day because of the usual Elon changes to the website.

Today it just got an update on F-Droid and it works again!

I share the same feelings. I just find it unfortunate that people try to turn it into a religious X vs (obviously) Mastodon fight, completely dismissing the fact that there is content that just isn't on Mastodon yet. My use-case is mainly stock market squawk (short trading headlines, which one can then verify with a Google search, immensely useful for retail traders who can't afford a Bloomberg terminal or a Benzinga subscription). I'm sure there are others who find value in some type of content that's on Twitter/X/whatever and that's just impossible to find on Mastodon right now. Dismissing that is just being unrealistic.

So for those like me who still need to follow certain Twitter accounts, an app like Squawker is a lifesaver.
