There are ways to respond that don't make use of problematic logical fallacies

What's unhinged here? It's a simple moral position: If exploiting someone via rent seeking is bad, then it's bad no matter whether you are doing it to one person or fifty.
You would only call this "unhinged" if you feel the act of having morals itself is such.
