That works because GrapheneOS has its own push service. Since I'm forced to use a stock Android, push notifications are done through Google Play Services, which I've deactivated and FOSS apps can't use anyway.

Appreciate the context. I almost deleted this as it felt pretty low value, or a meme. It wasn't clear what the point of it was. In future, please provide a bit more context.
