Who gives a fuck about gender roles in this the 23rd year of the 21st century of the common era
Go fucking touch grass
Lemmy.world ass question
Expected gender roles, gender presentation, gender identity, and pronouns are all separate things. For instance, a gender non-conforming he/him stone-butch lesbian is still a woman if he identifies as such. The same is true of she/her gay men. There are also many nonbinary people who use she/her or he/him pronouns but that doesn't inherently make them feminine or masculine, either in presentation or identity, nor does it indicate what role they play in society.
Neo-pronouns are used by non-binary people and thus do not have assigned roles attributed to them in the west, as the western gender binary doesn't account for them and has historically eliminated those who fall outside of the two 'acceptable' gender categories. In some non-western societies, various native non-binary genders and those born as what we now consider intersex have or had roles relating to things like religion and spirituality, childbirth, life celebrations such as marriage, and medicine.
Why does there have to be roles for these? Like, I don't use either of those pronouns, so I don't want to answer for those that do; maybe they do have a role or a set of norms that they are trying to follow, idk. But to me it seems like the point of all of this is freedom from all of that nonsense. Like anyone, of any gender, who uses any pronouns, can be a leader, or a caregiver, or whatever and associating basic human functions with specific genders (and the associated judgment if you are that gender and don't fill that role, or aren't that gender and do) is oppressive.
