Limiting interstate travel, is the argument I’m hearing. The tolls are (currently) being taken at the borders into other states, is what they’re saying.
Toll bridges say, fuck off.
So they move them back 100 feet.
There’s another one listed here in this post about accepting federal funding for road management. Even if the state were to resist, Trump would then withhold federal funding for… everything if needed. To include road maintenance.
This is the biggest one when a lot of these state issues come up.
How can the federal govt stop X from happening in Y state?
They can't.
But they can threaten to drop and withhold funding for any of the numerous programs the state gets federal money for.
In fact NY is suing, as the governor does not believe this to be legal.
