  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.

Summary

Senator Bernie Sanders condemned Trump’s order to freeze all federal loans and grants, calling it a “dangerous move towards authoritarianism” and “blatantly unconstitutional.”

The directive, exempting Social Security and Medicare, is expected to impact universities, nonprofits, food assistance programs, health centers, and disabled veterans.

Sanders emphasized that Congress holds the “power of the purse” and urged Americans to oppose the order.

Attorneys general are preparing legal challenges to overturn the freeze.

She voted against the railroad workers strike, so nah. She sold out to the DNC for a chance at power only for Pelosi to go assist her anyway.

She's still one of the best politicians y'all have though. But that bar is so low it's underground, so...

[–] Majorllama@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Ehhhhhh. I like her somewhat. I appreciate that she calls shit out instead of trying to PR speak everything all the time.

But she has been caught lying or misrepresenting data a handful of times (I mean what political figure has ever told the truth 100% of the time).

That Photoshoot of her crying at the border just really rubbed me the wrong way. She could have posted photos of the actual camps or tried to shed light on the situation in a more direct way. The photos of her fake crying at some chain link fence just really sst wrong with me and it still does.

Not that she's the first politician that ever staged a photo op in the history of the world, but I expect better from her ya know?

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's important to be critical of people we support, but it's also important not to throw the baby away with the bathwater.

OK, she took a photo you don't like. Who the fuck cares? It's politics. Does her policy positions agree with yours? That's what's important, not what she does to get attention on social media.

I care more about posting fake crying photos for brownie points than I do about minor policy disagreements. It shows a real lack of integrity and character when any politicians pose for bullshit pictures to try and garner sympathy/attention or votes. It's pathetic and insulting to my intelligence.

I have my gripes with her policies, but no more or less than I do for any other politicians. I think she plays some stupid games with some of the things she says, but I also really appreciate when she goes after other career politicians who just sit around and do nothing, but collect a paycheck.

I think she's a little misguided at times and like one of the other comments said I fear she's going to go down the Hillary Clinton route and not the Bernie sanders route.

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip -1 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

I have my gripes with her policies, but no more or less than I do for any other politicians.

Well, that says all that needs to be said. You don't agree with her anyway and you're just complaining when it's not relevant.

It's pathetic and insulting to my intelligence.

Sadly, that have to appeal to people of all intellects, including the lowest.

[–] Majorllama@lemmy.world 1 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

I said I have gripes. Do you agree with any politicians on every single stance they have??

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 0 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

You said no more or less than any other politician. No less? Really? You can't think of anyone worse?

You're making a bad faith argument or you misspoke. Hopefully the latter.

[–] Majorllama@lemmy.world 0 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

I bet you are exhausting to be around IRL. Obviously there are many politicians I agree with much less than her.

I didn't mean literally she's a 5 on my personal truth scale and all politicians are a 5 on my truth scale. I meant that on some topics I agree with her and on some I don't. Which I could pretty much say about any political figure.

I meant that to varying degrees I agree with or disagree with most politicians. I can probably find policies I like within any political figure. Hitler was a horrible fuckin person but he was weirdly protective of animals. I like what he did to protect animals during his lil hissy fit about getting kicked out of art school.

This "all politicians are equally bad" nonsense is so worthless and ignorant. Just stop.

[–] Majorllama@lemmy.world 0 points 19 hours ago

I would really appreciate it you didn't put any words in my mouth. I never said all politicians are equally bad.

My stance would be more accurately described as all politicians are bad, but to varying degrees.

Some are simply less bad. But all bad.

Have a good day.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The handcuff photo-op she did was ridiculous

[–] Majorllama@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

We all make mistakes. Maybe she will becomes someone we can actually root for in the future. Who knows.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 6 points 1 day ago

I hope so. I fear her becoming a career politician, and the downsides that can create. We'll see. Hopefully she'll be good.
