i remember when the same fucking battery was $80

[–] Oni_eyes@sh.itjust.works 9 points 3 days ago (5 children)

Seriously though, have there been battery advances that warrant that price increase or is it just capitalism rearing its ugly head again?

[–] solsangraal@lemmy.zip 21 points 3 days ago (1 children)

no. they'll rip you off because you can't go without a battery

[–] Wirlocke@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 days ago

Probably just capitalism, but I wouldn't be surprised if car batteries are reaping at least some of the benefits of the EV industry and their race for better batteries.

If it was a modern lithium battery it would have some merit. However there has not been a single advance in lead batteries.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. So it's either cost of materials increase, increased environmental regulation, or greed.

Hmmmm I wonder which one contributes the most

Infinite growth, homey!

Vehicles with auto stop-start will chew through batteries if they don't use the more expensive specialised battery (or disable the feature)

I think it was 5 years ago.

It is around €70 with VAT in EU (45Ah).

I used to drive to the bad side of town and buy a refurbished battery for $25. That battery would last at least 2 years.

Nah, these ones are sprinkled with fairy dust. You don't want to know how much the organic fairy dust version costs.
