I'm a new CFL fan, so I don't know the name Buck Pierce offhand, but that's an impressive resumé. Lions fans are pleased, I imagine
Pierce was Winnipeg's QB during the dark ages (2010-2013), but has been a very vocal fan of Winnipeg as a city, and has been on the coaching staff since he retired as a player in 2014. He seems like a really good dude.
BC is the only other team in the CFL he ever played for - he was with them prior to his time with Winnipeg, and again briefly during his last year before retirement.
HUH?!? Why did the Bombers get rid of him in the office? Or did he quit to take this job? I'm not thrilled to see that he's coming back here.
Whoever coaches, I want Vernon starting and make Rourke earn his spot again because he was bad this year. Keep him as 2nd string but he was nothing of what he was before he left 2 years ago, that's why I want Vernon as fulltime starter for now.
On or around Grey Cup Sunday (I can't remember exactly which, but I don't think it had anything to do with the outcome of the game), they said on TSN that Pierce was being granted the opportunity to speak with other clubs about an HC position. It sounds like it was pretty amicable - everyone knows that upward mobility is a challenge in the league.
I statement like that could mean anything from "If you see an opportunity somewhere else, we're not goijg to stop you, do what you want." to "Buck, check if you can find a position with a different team because this is not working for us."
I will watch how he does next season and if it was worth bringing him back.
