I noticed that not all magazines of federated (Lemmy) instances show up in search. So is there a way to open them anyway in Mbin and trigger fetching of content?
I already tried to open the /m/magazine@federated.instance URL directly but it only returns a 404.

I'll need to double check for Mbin, but for Lemmy:

  • a community doesn't start federating to an instance until someone from that other instance tries to access it (in the same way you described)
  • once someone does that, it starts federating and takes a few seconds to a few minutes to show up

Assuming mbin is the same, you could check back in a few minutes?

Yes, Mbin is basically the same.

All you need to do is search the magazine in the global (non-magazine) search field, and then subscribe to it and activity from then on will start federating.

Ahhhhh. I used the magazine search.
Thank you very much.
