Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, and toxicity are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.

China
It's banned in china
So is TikTok... China funds lots of things that are banned there.
TikTok is not banned in china.
Excuse me, TikTok is "unavailable" in China
That's not true either...
tiktok is completely allowed in china
it's called douyin and is the same thing owned by the same company
https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/is-tiktok-banned-in-china/ https://apnews.com/article/tiktok-bytedance-ban-china-india-376f32d78861e14e65ec4bc78e808a0d You can't even get it in Hong Kong anymore via AP
It's owned by the same company and is the same app with a different name...
tiktok just has a different name in china...
It is factually not, it is a version of the app that is separate and goes through the Chinese censors. If they were the same you'd just be able to use the same app.
it is factually just different brand-name.
Everything in china goes through the chinese censors, nobody is saying that china isn't heavily censored, but that's tiktok and it's available in china. Who cares about the name? So many things have different names by country.
It wouldn't even surprise me if China was sponsoring something and still banning it out of habit.
Why is this a burning question? I see a lot of people complain about ml, but I haven't had any issues with users or their communities; though the latter I've had sparing interactions with.
They advocate voting abstinence and voting third party a lot. That's a view that has been connected with Russian propaganda ops designed to put Trump in the White House.
Same. For every 1 .ml interaction that the have, I get 9 other randos aggressively telling me how aggressive .ml is. It's irony at its finest tbh.
In general, I find those 9 other randos more likely to tell me to fuck off.
