Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

One year on. Hundreds of thousands are dying or dead, millions are displaced, the Middle East is undergoing its greatest changes in a generation, Iran has directly attacked Israel twice in one year, and Yemen has proven that the US Navy ain't worth shit. We are the closest we have been to nuclear war (discounting accidents) in decades, but also the fall of Israel.

Because one day, the prisoners of a concentration camp paraglided over a wall.

Israel-Palestine Conflict

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA reports on Israel's destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

English-language Palestinian Marxist-Leninist twitter account. Alt here.
English-language twitter account that collates news.
Arab-language twitter account with videos and images of fighting.
English-language (with some Arab retweets) Twitter account based in Lebanon. - Telegram is @IbnRiad.
English-language Palestinian Twitter account which reports on news from the Resistance Axis. - Telegram is @EyesOnSouth.
English-language Twitter account in the same group as the previous two. - Telegram here.

English-language PalestineResist telegram channel.
More telegram channels here for those interested.

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists
Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Sources:

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.
Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
Simplicius, who publishes on Substack. Like others, his political analysis should be soundly ignored, but his knowledge of weaponry and military strategy is generally quite good.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Pro-Russian Telegram Channels:

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.
https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.
https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.
https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.
https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.
https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.
https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.
https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine Telegram Channels:

Almost every Western media outlet.
https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.
https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

New fake news:

Wall Steet Journal "report" that Russia is smuggling weapons to Yemen. (Linking another phony source because WSJ is behind paywall)

The claim that Russia is hiding Kornet missiles and AK-47's in grain deliveries is the stupidest thing I've read all week. Yemen does not need AK's and ATGM's. Yemenis need food.

This is all another scheme to justify tightening the siege of Yemen. Noteworthy that they are claiming deliveries into the port of Hodeidah (the main port the atlanto-zionists have been bombing).

They never change script, I have seen several variation of `''hiding weapons in aids'' in the media since my birth.

The worst thing is every time this shit works. I honestly believe that people read news not to stay inform but to reconfirm their bias like if they are in a cult

[–] Al_Sham@hexbear.net 49 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Wall Street Journal has never lied surely!!

[–] Fishroot@hexbear.net 40 points 3 weeks ago

well they never lie, they tell stories. Even when they lie, they can apologize for their mistakes and get vindicated.

What was the thing a while back where the US was really really interested in getting aid trucks into Venezuela for some reason? projection

[–] Frank@hexbear.net 14 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I vaguely remember that. They were stopped and burned on a bridge and then either they never existed and it was all made up or they were,kt carrying air?

[–] anarcho_blinkenist@hexbear.net 8 points 3 weeks ago

Even the International Red Cross was saying that the US was politicizing it and to stop the charade. The truck caught fire and the US media blamed it on the Maduro's government with a bunch of other footage and splices but the western-backed 'protestors' on the Columbia side recorded themselves throwing molotov cocktails at it and after that circulated online the media memory holed the story.

also there was a runaway truck that sped from the Venezuela side and smashed into the Columbia side, iirc killing a person or two and injuring a few others, and western media said it was Maduro trying to kill aid workers and peaceful protestors and showed some footages, but but the 'protestors' on Columba side recorded that too and in the footage after the ramming the driver got out shouting something like "I'm one of yours! don't shoot! I'm with you!" I think it turned out to be a pro-west defector or something from the military guard. Whether it was false flag or incompetence who knows

This was also all overseen by Elliot Abrams who Trump appointed

who was famous for Iran-Contra where he, among other things, smuggled weapons to far right terrorists in "humanitarian aid" shipments and lied about all his activities to congress and was convicted for it. Biden also appointed him for a council board toward 'democracy and freedom in Cuba' or some such nonsense.

This became so clear to me reading headline after headline about "Americans overwhelmingly support israel" in the last year. Those headlines always seemed more about normalizing and justifying the US's unbridled support for israeli terror. Exactly like you said, it felt like the goal of that so-called "news" was to subvert morality, ethics, and international law by appealing to israel's supposed popularity... *How can they be wrong is 80% of Americans support them? *

Of course, looking at the actual polling reveals how bullshit the numbers are... The most cited polls are from Harvard Harris, and the question behind the headlines is literally "In this conflict, do you support more israel or more Hamas"? It's such a bullshit question that even to this day, in September 2024, you can claim that "80% of Americans support israel"

[–] Wakmrow@hexbear.net 16 points 3 weeks ago

Probably because the US does it lol

[–] someone@hexbear.net 44 points 3 weeks ago

Apparently sovereign countries selling goods to each other directly is "smuggling".

Why does the Wall Street Journal hate capitalism?

[–] CleverOleg@hexbear.net 39 points 3 weeks ago

Russia should just openly give stuff to Yemen et al and just say they’ll stop sending weapons when NATO stops sending weapons to Ukraine.

[–] QuillcrestFalconer@hexbear.net 39 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Hope Russia is smuggling air defense systems into Yemen

[–] Al_Sham@hexbear.net 32 points 3 weeks ago

I feel we have missed the point...

[–] Frank@hexbear.net 23 points 3 weeks ago

This is fucked. Beating the war drums to re-start, or at least re-intensify, the us genocide of Yemen.

[–] TechnoAnomie@hexbear.net 19 points 3 weeks ago

Why would they be hiding it? It's perfectly rules based to do it, and they would want everyone to know.
