Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

Image is of a Hezbollah missile attack on a military camp west of Jenin.

The situation between Hezbollah and Israel is rapidly escalating, with massive bombing campaigns on southern Lebanon by Israel predominantly on civilians (as the tunnels in South Lebanon are mostly unreachable to the Zionists, just like in Gaza), while Hezbollah and its allies respond with missile attacks predominantly on Israeli military facilities. Israel is spreading an evacuation order to the residents of southern Lebanese villages while also bombing their routes of escape and civilian infrastructure, similar to a terror tactic used widely in Gaza.

Northern Israel is currently under military censorship to hide their losses, so we get very little information other than what the Resistance provides and what videos and images get through the censors.

I don't know if Israel will dare a ground incursion soon, but it seems fairly likely in the coming days or weeks.

Israel-Palestine Conflict

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA reports on Israel's destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

English-language Palestinian Marxist-Leninist twitter account. Alt here.
English-language twitter account that collates news.
Arab-language twitter account with videos and images of fighting.
English-language (with some Arab retweets) Twitter account based in Lebanon. - Telegram is @IbnRiad.
English-language Palestinian Twitter account which reports on news from the Resistance Axis. - Telegram is @EyesOnSouth.
English-language Twitter account in the same group as the previous two. - Telegram here.

English-language PalestineResist telegram channel.
More telegram channels here for those interested.

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists
Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Sources:

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.
Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
Simplicius, who publishes on Substack. Like others, his political analysis should be soundly ignored, but his knowledge of weaponry and military strategy is generally quite good.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Pro-Russian Telegram Channels:

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.
https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.
https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.
https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.
https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.
https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.
https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.
https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine Telegram Channels:

Almost every Western media outlet.
https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.
https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

VIDEOS are coming out of NC, TN, GA, ect. Appalachia and Smokey mountain regions got wrecked hard. Like permanently changed landscape hard. Mostly the absofuck ton of rain flooding these valley towns like Asheville and Chimney Rock. Roadways bridges HULK SMASH. Jamed with logs ripped off from landslides and busted riverbanks.

Layers of mud and sediment blanket entire towns.

This is not going to be a quick or easy cleanup. The toll on lives is increasing as well. 64 was the latest number from what I've seen.

Ashville, NC

NYP stating 1000 people unaccounted for in NC

The Biden-Harris admin has only mobilized ~1500 federal agents and seems to be in the process of bungling this worse than Bush bungled Katrina. They sent 700 members of the TN National Guard to the Middle East yesterday.

We hadn't heard from a relative who was in Asheville at the time of the flood until literally like an hour ago. Was fearing that they were among the casualty count, thank god thank fuck. Ahhhhhh

[–] Evilphd666@hexbear.net 40 points 2 months ago

Glad they're safe. Very anxious not knowing.

[–] newmou@hexbear.net 33 points 2 months ago

Aside from the immediate humanitarian issue of all this, it’ll be interesting to see how this may affect NC politics in the short term. Whoever the new governor is going to be can use this as a PR mandate if they lean into it. And it also throws the black NAZI guy a bone to redirect political conversation

[–] Parzivus@hexbear.net 33 points 2 months ago

They're extremely lucky the dam near Chimney Rock didn't fail, this could've been so much worse.
Still terrible though. I used to go to Montreat for family reunions, they're saying it was wiped out almost entirely. Landslides have entire communities trapped, it's crazy.

[–] GlueBear@hexbear.net 32 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (3 children)

They're calling it a "biblical destruction"

Edit: maybe I'm being callous when I say this, but I haven't seen any damage warranting that type of description. The death toll hasn't even reached 100 yet, this isn't Katrina.

Edit2: we are at 90 dead at least

[–] newmou@hexbear.net 40 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Absolutely biblical. My family is there, didn’t hear from them for 3 days. Finally got in touch with them this morning, they’ve been trapped by flooding on all sides. Asheville and other town after towns in Western NC are absolutely wrecked. Entire houses floating down rivers, huge stretches of roads just obliterated, strips of towns entirely washed away. Look up like Hot Springs and Chimney Rock for example. It’s going to be a very long recovery. Like there’s a major road between Boone and Asheville that is just gone

[–] GlueBear@hexbear.net 27 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I'm so sorry, I hope your family is safe.

[–] newmou@hexbear.net 29 points 2 months ago

Thanks comrade they are for now

[–] Wakmrow@hexbear.net 33 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It looks incredibly biblical. Check out tiktok. Whole towns washed away, Asheville had all bridges knocked out.

It's easy to forget that water doesn't compress and a pound of water coming at you at 50mph isn't that different from a pound of steel.

It looks like some of the bridges held but the flood waters undercut the banks so badly that the roads leading to teh bridge collapse.

when i was v young i got swept out to sea by a rip current in a shitty beach people die at all the time. the only thing that saved me was a YMCA camp counselor. thanks again luke. water is no fucking joke, and is so strong.

[–] Frank@hexbear.net 19 points 2 months ago

Afaik this is a vastly lower population density region. Katrina did most of it's damage in the city of New Orleans and surroundings.

[–] the_itsb@hexbear.net 28 points 2 months ago (1 children)

last night, I watched this one of Erwin, TN (great drone footage with annoying music, recommend mute) and kept pausing to look at the google map for the area and being absolutely dumbfounded by the destruction

it came sooooooo close to that nuclear storage facility

Between housing prices, california fires, trans genocide, floods and hurricanes, how many internally displaced refugees does the US have now?>

[–] SoyViking@hexbear.net 14 points 2 months ago

I don't know how the regime has responded but I know in my heart that they're not interested in doing anything but the bare minimum to avoid people getting angry at them and even that they're going to fuck up due to corruption and economic mismanagement.

My best wishes goes to the victims.
