Music doesn't need that much bass mixed in it, even some of the stuff that's on the heavier end. And I'm not even counting all the cars rattling my windows that I want to destroy.
A lot of contemporary sound equipment, especially in cars, really does seem tailored to "how much of an asshole can you be to people trying to sleep" over other priorities.
