Cars shouldn't be safe, they should be dangerous to the occupants in an accident to encourage paying fucking attention

[–] gay_king_prince_charles@hexbear.net 39 points 2 months ago (2 children)

That's not how this works. Seatbelts and airbags don't increase accidents. They just decrease fatalities.

[–] Des@hexbear.net 11 points 2 months ago

i still have one of those frag bomb airbags in my car. accident = claymore mine to the face

keeps me driving safe

[–] 7bicycles@hexbear.net 10 points 2 months ago

Thinking to small, put a spike on every steering wheel and you'd be assured people drive fucking carefully

[–] miz@hexbear.net 14 points 2 months ago (3 children)

all vehicles are fitted with an ten-inch blade sticking out of the steering wheel toward the driver. everyone starts driving REALLY CAREFULLY

(this is lifted from some comedian but I can't remember who)

[–] nat_turner_overdrive@hexbear.net 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

We just need to go back to old body style F-150 non-telescoping steering so it handily spears through the driver in a collision, road safety solved

[–] Frank@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It didn't solve road safety back then! Un-dialectical!

[–] nat_turner_overdrive@hexbear.net 6 points 2 months ago

did I screw up and post in the "non-controversial" opinion thread???

Takata already made those I thought.

[–] wtypstanaccount04@hexbear.net 5 points 2 months ago

That's just non-telescoping steering wheels

42k deaths a year (14 per 100,000, or a lifetime risk of over 1 in 1000) doesn't seem to deter many people.

Being disfigured, instead of dead, just might.

Pedestrians & cyclists should be safe - if you hit one instead of airbags knife-bags deploy. That or ejector seats when applicable.

Or both, in that order but with like a 5 second delay in between for comedic effect.
