Patty and Charlie Brown are walking. He says,"I dreamed about you last night..."

They stop and she asks,"Did you, Charlie Brown? Was it a nice dream?"

They sit on the curb and he replies,"I'm not sure..."

He concludes,"I slept through most of it!

Transcript:

Shermy and Charlie Brown struggle to stand on the ice in their skates. Shermy says,"Watch it!"

Shermy says,"Oops!" as he starts to fall. A shaky Charlie Brown says,"Careful!"

He falls down next to a fallen Shermy.

He sits up and says to a kneeling Shermy, "Let's jump over barrels!"

Shermy and Patty sit on the floor playing. He says,"Somebody's at the door"

She walks off saying,"I wonder who it can be?"

She opens the door and sees Charlie Brown. She says,"Oh, it's you, Charlie Brown..."

He looks at the reader as she walks off saying,"I thought it was somebody important!"

The gag is recycled from the Li'l Folks strip of December 24, 1947:

Snoopy sits on the table watching Charlie Brown write.

The latter looks up at him and says,"I'm glad that dogs can't read..."

He resumes writing and concludes,"A diary is a very personal thing"

Snoopy walks off smiling.

Charlie Brown is standing talking to Patty. She asks,"Do you think I'm beautiful, Charlie Brown?"

He replies,"Real beauty lies within!" She snaps,"That's not what I asked you!"

He continues,"A fair face will wither, but a good heart is the sun and the moon!"

As she chases him, he runs, laughs, and says,"I did my best!"

Patty sits on the floor reading. She looks up puzzled as a voice calls,"Hey!! Somebody call this dog!"

She turns in the direction of the voice as it continues,"Call him, I tell you! Call him!!"

She walks towards the voice as it continues,"Somebody call this dog!"

She stops by Charlie Brown where Snoopy is sitting on his tie. Charlie Brown asks,"Why don't you call him?"

Patty and Shermy stand nearby watching Charlie Brown cry. Shermy says,"Charlie Brown's been crying all day"

She says,"Maybe he's maladjusted" He asks,"Do you think it could be his environment?"

She replies,"Maybe he's frustrated or inhibited..." He walks off saying,"I'll ask him"

He comes back and says,"His shoes are too tight!"

Shermy and Patty sit on the ground talking. She says,"Let's have a sleigh ride"

He stands up and says,"Swell! I can see us now racing through the snow"

They run off and he continues,"Laughing! Singing! Boy, I can hardly wait!"

As he pulls Patty along on the sleigh, he says,"This didn't turn out the way I expected!"

Charlie Brown stands on the snow-covered walk talking to Patty, who is in her doorway. He asks,"Hi, Patty! May I come in?"

He looks down at his coat as she points at it and says,"Shake all that snow off first..."

She points to his feet and continues,"And wipe your feet real good"

He walks off saying,"I've changed my mind..it's not worth it!"

Charlie Brown stands on the snow-covered walk, shovel in hand, talking to Patty, who is standing in her doorway. He asks,"Shovel, your walk?"

She asks,"How much will you charge to do it?"

He replies, "Oh, I don't do it myself..."

He concludes, "I just rent out my shovel!"

Charlie Brown sits in an armchair reading. He says,"Hey, Patty, bring me a glass of water!"

Patty walks up to him and says,"Say, 'Please'.." He asks,"'Please' what?"

She replies,"Please bring me a glass of water"

She frowns as he smiles and says,"I asked you first!"

Charlie Brown is standing talking to Patty as she sits on the curb. He asks,"You know what I'd like to be?"

He exclaims,"A roughneck!

He shakes his fist, looks at the reader, and continues,"Yes, sir! A regular lil ol' roughneck!"

He sits next to her and concludes,"The only trouble is I'm not strong enough!"

Charlie Brown stands in the field looking ahead and says,"Well, look who's coming...man's best friend!"

As Snoopy walks by, he continues to look ahead and says,"And look who's with him.."

He watches as Patty walks by and says,"Man's biggest worry!"

He watches them go and concludes,"What a combination!"

Shermy sits behind Patty in class. He says,"I didn't do my homework..."

He rests his face on his hand and continues,"If the teacher calls on me, I'm sunk! Why doesn't the bell ring?!"

He continues,"It looks like Patty's my only hope..."

He leans forward and whispers to her,"Psst..Patty! See if you can start a filibuster..."

Charlie Brown approaches and asks,"Are you really hot, Patty?" She replies,"I'll say I Am!"

He says,"You don't look so hot to me!" She looks at him and exclaims.

She chases him. He runs off and says,"I get my laughs!"

Charlie Brown sits in the bathtub saying, "Baths aren't so bad"

He continues,"It's just a matter of getting used to it"

He continues,"I really don't mind it at all..."

He climbs out and concludes,"Especially when there's no water in the tub!"

Shermy stands in the bowling lane holding a bowling ball.

He runs along to throw it down the lane.

The ball klunks on the bowling lane.

As the ball sits unmoving on the lane, Shermy exclaims,"Rats! I never get any distance!!"

The first time the famous invective "Rats!" appears in the strip, while Shermy is seen in alone for the first time

Patty sits on the floor reading as Charlie Brown approaches looking into a mirror. He says,"I cut myself shaving this morning..."

She replies,"I didn't know that you shave, Charlie Brown"

He says,"Well, I don't, really..."

He concludes,"In fact, I didn't cut myself, either!"

Patty sits on the curb next to Charlie Brown. He says,"I'm a useless sort of guy!"

They stand and he continues,"I'm a lazy good-for-nothing!"

He jumps confused as she slaps him sharply. She exclaims,"You can't talk that way about Charlie Brown!"

He sits on the floor stunned and says,"What loyalty!"

Charlie Brown stands talking to Shermy. He says,"My dad could never lick your dad"

Shermy replies,"Oh, I don't know...I don't think my dad could lick anybody!"

They walk off and Charlie Brown replies,"Mine, neither"

He concludes,"They're a couple of pretty good guys, though!"

Patty and Charlie Brown are walking down the lane sucking lollipops. He says,"Life is like an all-day sucker"

She asks,"What do you mean, 'Life is like an all-day sucker'?"

They stop and he replies,"Here today and gone tomorrow!"

He smiles from his position in the snow, with his lollipop lying beside him. He says,"I thought that was pretty good!"

Patty and Charlie Brown are walking along. She asks,"Are you brave, Charlie Brown?"

They stop and he replies,"I'll say I am!! Just try me!"

He smiles as she yells,"BOO!"

He replies,"See? I didn't bat an eye!"
