A weekly project to tackle food poverty in the community has reached a major milestone.

Everton in the Community set up Blue Base Pantry in June 2022 with Fans Supporting Foodbanks, St Andrew's Community Network, and Your Local Pantry.

It provides about 160 people with low-priced foods a week.

As the Blue Base Pantry held its 100th weekly session, one user said they would be "lost" without it.

The service also includes benefits and housing advice as well as a swap shop for clothes.

The initiative follows on from Everton's Blue Family campaign, which supported over 29,000 individuals and families with urgent support during the pandemic.

The final Merseyside derby of Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool reign might well be remembered as the final blow to his dream of signing off with the Premier League title. For the first time in 14 years, and the first time against Klopp, Everton were triumphant against their local rivals at Goodison Park. Jarred Gillett – Queensland, Australia

A Liverpool fan who also doesn't referee Everton matches.

Rob Jones – Wirral, Merseyside

Never involved in Liverpool or Everton games.

Peter Bankes – Liverpool, Merseyside

It remains unclear who the 42-year-old supports, but he is not involved in Liverpool or Everton matches having grown up in the area.

Darren Bond – Wigan, Greater Manchester

He has also not been involved in Everton and Liverpool games despite being a Wigan Athletic supporter.

Michael Salisbury – Higher Penwortham, Lancashire

Never involved in Liverpool or Everton matches, but it remains unclear exactly who he supports.

Following similar chanting during the previous matches against Manchester United and Newcastle at Goodison Park, Everton had engaged with the fans' advisory board and fans' forum to discuss what could be done.

In a planned move, it was decided the message of 'fans supporting foodbanks' would be displayed on the big screen inside the stadium whenever the chants - such as "Feed the Scousers" and "sign on" - were heard in Sunday's Premier League match against Chelsea.

They are songs specifically aimed at Everton and Liverpool fans by rival supporters mocking Merseysiders around the theme of unemployment.

In total, the message flashed up three times during Everton's 2-0 win over Chelsea - the first coming after just 34 seconds - and the club said this will continue throughout the season.

The mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, has accused the Premier League of an abuse of process in its attempt to impose a 10-point penalty on Everton and said the club’s punishment must be declared null and void.

Burnham has written to the chair of the Premier League, Alison Brittain, and the secretary of state for culture, media and sport, Lucy Frazer, in his capacity as an Everton season-ticket holder. He has accused the Premier League of “regulatory malpractice” for seeking to introduce a sanctions policy specific to Everton’s case midway through the disciplinary process and of using the club as “a pawn” in efforts to show an independent regulator is not required in football.

Everton have been docked 10 points after being found guilty of breaching Premier League financial fair play rules, the biggest points deduction in the competition’s history.

The penalty drops the club to second bottom, two points from safety. Everton, who had denied wrongdoing, believe a sporting punishment for an accountancy matter is disproportionate and inappropriate and have told the league they intend to appeal. The club said it was “shocked and disappointed”.

Leeds, Leicester and Burnley have previously written to Everton’s prospective new owners, 777 Partners, warning they intended to sue for damages in the event of a guilty verdict. All three clubs were relegated in the past two seasons when Everton narrowly survived.

Everton are closing on the signing of Wilfried Gnonto after convincing the winger to leave relegated Leeds Utd in a move that will also quadruple the Whites’ initial investment, according to reports in Italy.

The Italy winger, 19, was one of the few bright sparks for Leeds in an otherwise disastrous season

Free agent Ashley Young has agreed to join Everton and is scheduled to have a medical on Tuesday after leaving Aston Villa this summer.

Young, 38, won the Premier League and FA Cup with Manchester United, as well as the Serie A title with Inter Milan.

The full-back would be Everton's first signing under manager Sean Dyche.

It's been a bit quiet for Everton so far but things are hotting up.

MSP entered a period of exclusivity with Moshiri at the beginning of the summer. The development came after months of discussions, with founders Jeff Moorad and Jahm Najafi present at Goodison Park for the defeat to Southampton in January. Investment designed to help progress continue with the new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock is now close to being signed off.

Not being able to complete the new stadium would be pretty disastrous for the redevelopment of that part of the docks.

My granddad learned to swim in the Stanley Dock and was a dock gate man for decades, so I feel sentimentally attached to the area.

Everton value in-demand striker Ellis Simms at between £7 million and £10 million, according to Paul Joyce from The Times.
