What is your profession? I'm curious if, like Lemmy in general, most users come from a CS background. To avoid identifying information, feel free to be vague.

I am in STEM, but not CS!

I have a few community ideas that I'd like to gauge interest in. Don't necessarily want to flood the instance with empty communities. Feel free to pose your own ideas as well. See comments!

Another Burger style out there scenario, and just to make things interesting, I put in some downsides to each:

The chef cat, while he or she specializes in seafood type dishes they're pretty adept at a wide variety of dishes. They don't clean up after themselves though. It's up to you to clean the dishes, and they're not careful about leaving messes.

The vocalist/instrumental cat is really good at singing, but they are also okay at playing instruments. If there was one instrument where the cat specializes in, it'd be the harp. Just because their claws would aid them in playing beautiful melodies. The only downside is that they like to play music at night too, since felines are nocturnal. So expect to wear earplugs or something of the sort to be able to sleep.

My country is one I've been working on for a while, is called Shotaland! The fundamental principles of the country are Privacy and Freedom of Expression. The ideas of personal freedoms are deeply rooted in every single part of the Shotaland government. If you're not hurting anyone who doesn't/can't consent, you are free to do as you wish in the privacy of your own home.

Tell me about your fictional country and feel free to ask others about theirs! I thought this might be fun!

It looks like they're angry at me and it worries me.

Like seriously how the hell do you navigate it? Out of curiosity I made an account on a small instance and had no idea how to even find even my subscribed magazines. It might look might look nice but it's confusing to use.

Let's just say hypothetically this was possible and that the laws of silicon were not a thing, and that there was market demand for it for some asinine reason. As well as every OS process scheduler was made to optionally work with this. How would this work?

Personally, I'd say there would be a smol lower clocked CPU on the board that would kick on and take over if you were to pull the big boy CPU out and swap it while the system is running.

I know there's some good descramblers over the years but man, let me tell you it's still my dream to watch something like kuroinu uncensored.

I think if reincarnation was/is real it'd probably work regardless of time and creatures would be locked into their own categories. So like, humans could only reincarnate as other humans, for example.

When I say it'd work regardless of time, I mean like, if you died you could reincarnate as someone in the future or the past.

Kinda a silly discussion topic, but I thought it might be kinda interesting.

just the ones I tested,
even tho I don't think they have burggit.moe in their blocklist
I can reach other lemmy instances like lemmy.fmhy.ml

by federating I mean like: searching for a post in their search bar and have it pop up (and the other way around)

Current fixation? (burggit.moe)

Sometimes I get in these phases where I'm just fixated on 1 thing and I can't divert away from it. Lately it's been a project i'm working on, but sometimes it's a game, a show or some other thing. Are you fixated on anything at the moment?

I’m interested in finding one that truly supports free speech. If something is spam or advertising then it should be removed.

With Mullvad recently removing port forwarding from their capabilities, many are on the search for a new VPN. What is Burggit's favorite VPN?

What is the community’s stance on cross-posting from other sites? Either via direct link or screenshot/recording?

For example, it might be bad taste to create posts which are just links to Reddit threads. At the same time, discouraging posts which are just links to YouTube videos seems a little silly. Of course, you can come up with many grey-areas between these two examples.

Personally, I don’t want to follow links to Reddit because that place is a disaster. That being said, funny things are posted to that site and I don’t see any reason why I shouldn’t laugh at a screenshot of such a thing posted here.

I have a weakness for blonde and green haired anime girls. Was thinking about it and kinda thought, hmmm, I wonder if others had preferences like that.

Meta recently launched Threads in a seemingly rushed state likely aiming to capitalize on Twitter's recent actions, missing features such as Digital Markets Act compliance and ActivityPub support.

Some communities have decided to preemptively defederate them as soon as that gets implemented under fears of them repeating what google did with XMPP by using "Embrace, Expand until no one else can keep up" tactics, while others have claimed those fears are overblown.

So I have to wonder, is there a way to update some of the communities on the Community tab? I know that we had a lot of defederation, and of course some of those communities, while outdated, still appear on the list. Would be nice to be able to cull them so we're not leading people into getting their hopes up.
