They were socialists punks & goths from east germany who would regularly get in fights with reactionaries in their youth??? I genuinely did not see this coming. Maybe it would have been obvious if I spoke german but I don't and I am shocked. Genuinely expected chud behavior

let's review the shit excuses they gave when they agreed with the protestors:

Review faults police response to Charlottesville far-right rally | Reuters

Heaphy, whose team interviewed 150 people, said no police officer he spoke to felt good about what happened.

Officers were not properly trained or deployed, Heaphy said. State and city police used different radio systems during the rally so they could not communicate effectively.

Heaphy said Charlottesville wrongly believed it could not ban protesters from carrying items such as clubs and shields, and city and state police took too passive an approach when clashes broke out.

"Despite clear evidence of violence, police consistently failed to intervene, de-escalate, or otherwise respond," the report said. "These shortcomings contributed to a chaotic series of events that led to violence and death."

I edited the title. It took me 20 minutes to think up "Our Big Fry Boy". Better late than never I guess.

Once upon a time, there were at least a few things that pretty much everyone thought were bad ideas, or at least problems that needed to be addressed in some capacity. Teen pregnancy, for instance! Everyone, save for some religious cults and those girls in Gloucester, Mass, who did the pregnancy pact back in 2008, seemed to be in agreement that we did not want teenage girls getting pregnant.

In recent years, it has become far less of a problem — teen pregnancies declined to a record low of 13.2 births per 1,000 females ages 15–19, which is significantly less than the record high in 1991, when the rate was 61.8 births per 1,000 females aged 15–19.

That’s good, right? That’s what everyone wants? Well, as it turns out: no.

In a recently filed lawsuit against the FDA over their rule changes regarding abortion medication, the states of Missouri, Idaho, and Kansas argue, for real, that they have been harmed by the rule changes because states where abortion is illegal have been cruelly deprived of the rise in teen pregnancies they had hoped to see after Roe was overturned

Dead serious. Go to pages 189 and 190.

Defendants’ efforts enabling the remote dispensing of abortion drugs has caused abortions for women in Plaintiff States and decreased births in Plaintiff States. This is a sovereign injury to the State in itself. […]

These estimates also show the effect of the FDA’s decision to remove all in-person dispensing protections. When data is examined in a way that reflects sensitivity to expected birth rates, these estimates strikingly “do not show evidence of an increase in births to teenagers aged 15-19,” even in states with long driving distances despite the fact that “women aged 15-19 … are more responsive to driving distances to abortion facilities than older women.” The study thus concludes that “one explanation may be that younger women are more likely to navigate online abortion finders or websites ordering mail-order medication to self-manage abortions. This study thus suggests that remote dispensing of abortion drugs by mail, common carrier, and interactive computer service is depressing expected birth rates for teenaged mothers in Plaintiff States, even if other overall birth rates may have been lower than otherwise was projected.

And yes, they are saying this like it’s a bad thing. In fact, they claim that the FDA is harming them because without all those teen moms making babies, they might have less representation in Congress and the Electoral College.

A loss of potential population causes further injuries as well: the States subsequent “diminishment of political representation” and “loss of federal funds,” such as potentially “losing a seat in Congress or qualifying for less federal funding if their populations are” reduced or their increase diminished.

So not only are they claiming that they are harmed by not being able to force adult women to have babies they don’t want, they are also harmed by not being able to force teenage girls to have babies they don’t want.

I’d like to point out at this juncture that teen moms are significantly less likely than their peers to graduate from high school, and that teenage pregnancy is very closely related to poverty — two-thirds of teen moms who move out of their parents’ house live below the federal poverty level. Seventy-eight percent of children born to unwed teen moms live below the poverty level.

Now, sure — there are some success stories, girls who have kids and go on to college and do well for themselves. But it’s not a lot! These states are more or less saying that they are willing to condemn a significant portion of these girls and their children to poverty so that they don’t lose a vote in the Electoral College. That is truly sick.

There has always been a part of me that felt like the only logical reason anyone would support “abstinence only” education, when it has so constantly proven to be incredibly ineffective, would be if they actually wanted more teen pregnancies. After all, if your goal is to not have a bunch of teen moms, why wouldn’t you do the thing we know prevents that: comprehensive sex education. This is not to say that I actually thought they all wanted more teen pregnancies so much as I thought they were just deeply illogical, irrational, and selfish people who cared more about getting an opportunity to force their religious beliefs on others than about not ruining the lives of teenage girls.

But perhaps I was wrong! Maybe they really did want teen pregnancies the whole time. Maybe they wanted to put young women in a position where they felt like they had to marry young and skip college and spend the rest of their lives barefoot and pregnant. Maybe that was the plan all along and they’re just coming clean about it now.

Still, let’s look on the bright side here — the teen pregnancy rates haven’t increased as much as they’d “hoped.” Thats a good thing! That is something to celebrate. We should be proud of these girls for doing what they have to do to get reproductive care and protect their futures, regardless of the stupid state in which they live. Good for them!

Actually, wait, she changed her mind and now says we can get a third cat, but only if we keep it outdoors. Anyway, our current cats are Norwegian forest cats so don't usually vote in American elections.

Reading through the replies to this and others, just incredible how many people ingest narratives about “terrorism” and how myths about Oct 7 still persist (or persist because people want them to be true).

A lot of boomer behavior and beliefs make sense when you realize this. A lot of them were raised by whatever garbage was on TV due to neglectful parents.

Do yourself a favor and watch an episode of one of these shows some time. MASH, Gilligans Island, the Andy Griffith Show, etc. Pure escapism. Simple black and white moralistic protestsnt values.

Now realize that when boomers reminisce about a time when "townspeople knew the local cop" that this never existed. They are literally just going off what they seen on the andy griffith show as a kid during their formative years.

Sometimes we argue about politics. He's kind of a union lib who's therefore eoc dem by default but he's got this thing where he's more mad at Trump than any other political cause Trump has been a known laughing stock for about 40 years. Also wee Canadian so we don't vote in most American elections. Should I cut off all tied with my family cause my dad is a lib? (The rest of my family are Shining Path, so they're cool)

Hey peeps, I've been a hexbear a while this is just a new alt. mao-wave

Some background: My Mom is a lib, but not a superlib. She is disgusted by what's happening in gaza, doesn't really belive the democrats have her best interests at heart, etc. She thinks she consumes diverse media but it's really only what the local radio station plays. (NPR, BBC World Service.) Whenever I bring up the issue of supporting the democrats when they are actively committing genocide, she agrees with how disgusting it is but also doesn't believe it's not worth voting for Kamala over. ("I can't let this be the reason trump becomes president again.") She also doesn't believe that Kamala and Biden are actively praticipating in the genocide - she thinks the money will get sent either way. I know. She was extremely disillusioned with the dems before Joe dropped out but after they tagged Kopmalla in she's been fairly excited. She likes Kamala somewhat, very much likes that she's a woman, and very much dislikes trump. Anytime I call her out on her inconsistencies in belief vs how she votes (not that voting really matters but its the principal) she talks about how she as a mother and a woman can't let Trump win again.

Anyways, I had a very productive conversation with her last night. I basically convinced her that Kamala will lose, and deserves to lose because she won't shift her policy on Gaza. I also told her that Jill Stein doesn't need to win, she just needs to get to 5% to change the political landscape of this country. (I know that Stein is far from ideal but she's not a LIB, she's an easy pill for much more people to swallow and she has the best shot of 5%. The PSL is far better, but I'm supporting Jill this cycle.) I think what finally woke my Mom up is when I said, "You always talk about wanting to make change somehow, and this is a way to make change but you won't take it because that's what others have told you not to do." That really seemed to strike a cord and I feel like she really hears me for the first time.

Now she's at the point where she can't hear it any more from me, but needs a little boost further to radicalize her against the democratic party. If any hexbears have some good resources on subjects like the lack of the lesser of two evils, the democrats enactment of project 2025, how getting Stein to 5% helps, the ease at which Biden and Kamala could end the genocide, etc they'd be much appreciated.

I typed this out in like 5 minutes on my phone so I hope any of it makes sense. Also if we could avoid dunking on my mom, that'd be great - she's a lib but she made me who I am and is amazing also.

While I've certainly seen a lot of posts and cases about the other side of the coin. And not to dismiss this. I've seen plenty of stories and accounts of people who have lost family members to the cult of the "cheeto man" himself.

But my mom has gone complete bonkers since 2016 for an entirely different reason. Shes obsessed with hating Trump. From 2016-2021 it was like 99% of what she would talk about. Hell, its gotten a tiny bit better but its still like 50% on a good day of what she talks about at any given time still. During the Mueller era, she had CNN practically 24/7. So much so that one of the headlines literally burned into her TV. She would post and show anyone she talked to anti Trump memes, songs, etc. People started disconnecting from her and she just had this "Well I guess they dont like what I havr to say! They're Trumpers anyways." Pretty much lacking any self awareness into how unhinged the election made her and fully leaning into it.

This is a woman who went from not voting and not really caring for either side of the political aisle to running for and becoming a school board member. She was so insufferable in this position that she took a 4 year break because no one liked her, ran again, and resigned because no one on the board or at the school likes her.

Fortunately, I havent lived with her for the most part since COVID, aside from like 3 months when I was in between apartments due to a breakup at the time. But I do still love her and miss the old her from before Trump became president so I keep in semi touch with her.

But I had a conversation with her recently about this election that makes me question the sanity of most of these boomer libs. Despite knowing Im not voting for kamala or Trump, she keeps pushing me. Texting "your vote counts. Theres only 2 candidates" over and over. Even though I literally live halfway across the country from her in California. Shes running short of harassing me to vote for Kamala. And then out of the blue she calls me literally just to talk about this. Spews the same old zionist bullshit that "we should fund Israel, its just Bibi whos bad!" And that "Israel-Palestine is just ONE issue anyways". And so on the usual crap about J6 and shit.

I said something like "kamala and trump are both evil, Trump is just honest about it".

And she literally goes off "YOU THINK TRUMP IS HONEST! YOU MUST BE DRINKING THE KOOL AID SON! DONALD TRUMP IS ANYTHING BUT HONEST."

Basically calling me a Trumper for the mere suggestion of Trump being honest about something. Much less, honest about him being evil. Before hanging up and saying I have nothing better to do. Despite her bothering me about the subject, her calling me to argue, and her lack of being able to talk about much of anything else.

Does anyone else have any stories of crazy lib relatives post 2016? I feel like I cant be the only one.
