tbh i've been so sick of reddit lately that i've been spending time on 4chan again, which is really saying something
hoping the fediverse will put a stop to that lmfao
Yes. It feels like moving to a new town and having to meet new neighbours, make new friends, know the neighbourhood and all that
I'm from the state of Kerala in India. We had 4-5 active n quite decent subreddits on the state, local memes n all.
People are moving into lemmy, but many might not. Some might stay away from reddit, even after the blackout ends. Overall, I think they were fun people to interact with and since it's not sure whether an equivalent community will be built up here, it's sort of a loss.
New place new rules new spirit. I’m all in. Deleted Apollo, will overwrite my stuff on Reddit.
Not really, I just miss some of the subs that I used to frequent. Most of them already exist somewhere in the Fediverse and just need to gain some traction. The other thing I miss is my app, RedReader, but the author has plans to extend it to support Lemmy or similar in the future so I'm good.
My Reddit account was turning 16 in August (that's older than some Redditors I'm sure!). It was a wild ride, back in the days where Reddit worshiped Ron Paul, and the entire front page was "Upvote if !", to today's mess. Kinda bittersweet yes but a change and some competition is long overdue!
no I fucking hate Reddit
Yeah, it's a lot of value destroyed and many communities and individuals will never make the switch. It's a sad thing, even if there is new opportunity as we see with Lemmy.
I closed my Facebook account in 2016 and haven't looked back. Hoping I feel the same about Reddit
I do. I’ve gotten so much value out of it. I ended up deleting my account and comments to give as much teeth to all of this as I can, and while I realize there’s not a lot of value for me personally in my history, it does make me sad for the knowledge lost. I think it’s necessary for Reddit to feel enough pain to change course (if they will at all) but it still makes me sad.
I came back to Apollo for a while on a new iPad. I am so sad to see it go - it's one of the top parts of iOS I actually miss. Certainly sad to not use it nor Boost anymore.
Yeah I'd say so. I used Reddit for 6 years and Boost for around 4. Maybe 5. I dont think im heartbroken yet, I'm just angry. It's a ridiculous move on their part.
On the bright side though, I'm already feeling very at home here especially since a lot of people are pushing hard for Lemmy to become a better version of Reddit. I'll keeo pushing too. Hopefully moving away from Reddit altogether.
Annoyed, really. I'm reminded of how Usenet went to shit in the early 2000s due to major servers utterly failing at spam mitigation.
As they say, "this is why we can't have nice things."
It’s definitely a strange feeling, I’m not sure that heartbreak is the right term for me. It’s more uncomfortable - I don’t mind the change but the ease of access to all the content I wanted in one place was just so fucking convenient! I know this community will grow with time, and I don’t hate that I’m more comfortable interacting here, but I look forward to the day where I can go back to my room scrolling lurk like the good ole days lol.
It feels weird. I'll still be using reddit because that is the link site i still enjoy the most. but i hope one day will be the day that something else takes over. (lets hope its not chinese like tiktok)
Of course I feel heartbroken. Nich communities that I am slowly leaving behind. Many many saved posts that I always intended on going back to but never did. I'm still on Reddit and the reality of the situation hasn't sunk in yet. But I'm starting over here fresh and I'm even ready to actually participate more over here than on Reddit. I'm just ready to start something new
I sucks but I did the same thing with Digg when it turned to shit.
I think what sucks is there is a wealth of knowledge and reviews etc. that may be lost
