This is what all the "vote blue" jabronis forget. One of the foundational pitches of the democratic party is that they are the competent helmsman of empire. The Republicans are stupid and uncouth and willing to do something badly to appeal to their hog base like put saw blades in a river crossing. The democrats, sage and wise, are willing to do bad things but they'll try to be more efficient at it. No saw blades but even more deportations! Progress!

The 2nd Iraq war is a great example of this. Both Kerry and Obama ran on a lot of rhetoric about how the Bush administration had fumbled in Iraq and they were going to go in there and do it right. Now, the actual right thing to do would have been to end the occupation and help rebuild Iraq because time travel doesn't exist so not invading at all was off the table. But they did not do this. They didn't even lie about ending it and kept doing it, ala closing Guantanamo. No, the Republicans were being incompetent, and the democrats were gonna do it right.

The vote blue crowd mocks criticism as bad faith "both sides" bullshit but the reality, as usual, is a lot darker. I bet if you dug deep enough into that crowd you'd find people that think Humphrey could have won in Vietnam but Tricky Dick fucked it all up.

They didn’t even lie about ending it

Obama campaigned on pulling out early, then maintained Bush's schedule.

You're right I forgot about Obama saying he'd take a middle position between withdrawing and continuing the war and then just doing what the republicans wanted. True to his character, I suppose.

Obama got rightfully called the "deporter in chief" by advocates. Despite reactionaries and 10o clock news juice drinkers claiming he was "soft" or whatever.

The burgerbrains don't care about facts like their shitbag pundits claim to espouse. They'll see this article and either call it woke or their eyes will roll to the back of their head.

I hate this country

It’s not about the raw numbers for those types, it’s about the theatrics. They’d rather have Trump deport fewer people but talk about how dangerous them Mexicans are, than have Biden deport more but talk about how we respect diversity and multiculturalism in this country.

Same shit with cops, Trump’s restructuring of community development funding hurt a lot of local police departments, but as long as the rhetoric is all “The cops should be going Punisher mode on Bad Guys” they’re happy.

Word. There's no "immigrant crisis", so actual harm to real people doesn't matter. The hogs are in it for the theater. They want a perceived threat of an alien danger so they can feel alive in their little suburban fortress-castles.

What a savvy political triangulation! I'm sure many moderate conservatives will realize that Biden is meeting them in the middle, and Vote Democrat this November! i-voted

His administration's been bragging about it for a while.

"Over the last three years we’ve removed, returned, or expelled more people than in all four years of the prior administration," Mayorkas continued. "You know, the facts matter. And the rhetoric, we should brush aside."

During the 2020 election, the Latino twitter subreddit didnt want to hear about Biden possibly being worse on immigration despite the trend that every administration since Reagan was more hard-line than the previous regardless of party. It always seemed to me that Latinos imagine their preferred party being nice to "the good ones" while handling the bad behind the scenes or not even giving that a thought at all. Its no surprise that a lot of the Latino vote is actually hostile now to immigration when given time, theyre assimilation strips them of any sort of solidarity or empathy to a situation they or their parents may have had. The border will be militarized. Thats the bipartisan project. And it isn't just to keep them out but to keep you in.

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 9 points 4 months ago (1 children)

And yet, fascist republicans will still say he's opened the border.

This is why you don't give ground to them, they don't care. Liberals are incapable of understanding this.

Democrats pretend they are center left while enacting exactly the same policies as republicans, and republicans act like they're left for real and get super mad. Bullshit top to bottom.
