Mildly Interesting

This is for strictly mildly interesting material. If it's too interesting, it doesn't belong. If it's not interesting, it doesn't belong.

This is obviously an objective criteria, so the mods are always right. Or maybe mildly right? Ahh.. what do we know?

Just post some stuff and don't spam.

That's how I identified my yard bun. Also a cottontail.

I love you got so up close to it

It will almost take grass from me. It'll come up and sniff it but doesn't trust quite that much. Then inevitably a loud truck comes by and scares it off. One of these days maybe I'll get to give it pets.

That’s adorable >.< Wild animals are kinda scary to touch because of the the untold amounts of germs they carry, be careful

The Seek app by iNaturalist is great. It's really good at identifying pants and animals and to a lesser degree, fungi. It's also used for research, so it's pretty cool. My wife and I always update each other on how many new species we snapped at the end of the day.

I'm really impressed that you are able to identify pants with your phone. /s 🤣

"Yup, those are pants." - my phone.

I'm using it to identify plants from its leaves. What a handy features but they did scan our photos!

I am totally looking for more privacy oriented options, I am not thrilled about being in the big tech ecosystem

And check out Merlin Bird ID, it will recognize bids songs and tell you what sort of bird made them.

Also iNaturalist. It's not as automated as Merlin, but I've found that you can get help from users there when Merlin doesn't recognize the bird. iNaturalist is especially good for identifying flora and fauna photos, though.

It may be because there are two types of flowers in the photo! The ones with lots of little “trumpets” appear to be lantana. The pink one could be a lot of things, it’s hard for me to tell without seeing the flower and plant more clearly. You can always post to the gardening community for help with plant IDs :)

Oooh good point! I’ll have to try with just one flower

Edit you were right!
