A healthy vibrant democracy.

EDIT: Lmao the bill introduces criminal penalties for officials caught lying in parliament.

[–] laziestflagellant@hexbear.net 61 points 5 months ago

You do not, under any circumstances, 'gotta hand it to em' (because he will run away with it)

[–] EmmaGoldman@hexbear.net 49 points 5 months ago (3 children)

What's the context? What was the bill about? What are this guy's politics like?

[–] makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml 37 points 5 months ago

According to another in this thread:

the bill introduces criminal penalties for officials caught lying in parliament.

I think the current DPP goverment lacks a majority in congress. The KMT + their allies are trying to limit the Executive branch powers and the DPP are angry because now they won't be able to do shit to sabotage a future unification with China.

[–] GladimirLenin@hexbear.net 9 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Wait, KMT are the least shit party in all this?

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 13 points 5 months ago

Yeah they're more amicable towards normalizing relations with the PRC and future reunification. It's strange but these days the DPP are Washington's main puppets.

every time i try to read traditional chinese i feel grateful for the CPC i'm not gonna lie to you lol

that could also just be me tho. idk

I like traditional for the aesthetic, like if you're gonna make old school signage or calligraphy, it just looks better. But for everyday reading and writing it's just so much more tedious. Simplifying the characters was the right decision when it comes to education and accessibility.

See this is EXACTLY why we need blockchain. Never would have happened.

Imagine Kamala Harris dashing out of the Senate with a USB key containing all 1,776 of the US Congressional $VOTE tokens.

Honestly I don't understand why politicians don't do this shit more often. Just delaying say, bombs for Israel or cutting medicaid for a day can save dozens of lives, and show your constituency you understand what these bills mean for real human beings.

But no, every time it's for the worst possible, like promoting corruption or disenfranchizing serbs or something.

[–] queermunist@lemmy.ml 24 points 5 months ago

That's because it's fun and whimsical when the worst people do it, so they are allowed to get away with shenanigans.

If someone did this to delay bombs for Israel they'd be stopped by force.

Can't give the poors an inch.

[–] Mardoniush@hexbear.net 21 points 5 months ago

And you all laughed when the US said the Parliamentarian was stopping them from passing anything.

[–] Guamer@hexbear.net 21 points 5 months ago

"Wait, can we do that? Is that allowed?"

Critical support to the DPP against Taiwan's bourgeois democracy.
