As a non-American it's any place in America that has a northern Europe-like climate and that you haven't heard about before.
Buffalo and Pittsburg are the end of the Midwest. The finger lakes are a liminal space dividing the colonized east coast and the more recently colonized territory we call the Midwest.
The Midwest can also be divided into upper and lower based on economy. The Upper Midwest or Great Lakes region is much more industrial with the prevalence of lake freighters carrying ore and timber. Whereas the Lower Midwest is more agricultural with vast fields and prairie.

A region within one of the most evil hegemonic empires to have ever existed that needs total liberation from capitalism and the establishment of a communist regime.
Northern part of the Mississippi watershed thats not west of Minnesota.

It's like the Free State Province in South Africa but 10 times bigger. Commonly referred to or mis-characterised as very flat and flyover country even though there's some interesting stuff there.
