Welcome to the Unpopular Opinion community!

How voting works:

Vote the opposite of the norm.

If you agree that the opinion is unpopular give it an arrow up. If it's something that's widely accepted, give it an arrow down.

Guidelines:

Tag your post, if possible (not required)

  • If your post is a "General" unpopular opinion, start the subject with [GENERAL].
  • If it is a Lemmy-specific unpopular opinion, start it with [LEMMY].

Rules:

1. NO POLITICS

Politics is everywhere. Let's make this about [general] and [lemmy] - specific topics, and keep politics out of it.

2. Be civil.

Disagreements happen, but that doesn’t provide the right to personally attack others. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Please also refrain from gatekeeping others' opinions.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Shitposts and memes are allowed but...

Only until they prove to be a problem. They can and will be removed at moderator discretion.

5. No trolling.

This shouldn't need an explanation. If your post or comment is made just to get a rise with no real value, it will be removed. You do this too often, you will get a vacation to touch grass, away from this community for 1 or more days. Repeat offenses will result in a perma-ban.

Instance-wide rules always apply. https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/

MODERATORS

The only person laughing is usually the person who made the joke and it's generally just irritating to everyone else who just wants to get on with their day. I might feel differently if we like, got the day off work for April Fools Day I guess

It is like the shitty version of The Purge. "Go out and fuck with people only for today, but nothing too fucky."

Holiday

Do you not normally work on April 1st if it doesn't fall on a weekend or Easter Monday?

That was my whole point, I could just ignore all the horrible "jokes" if I didn't have to work that day but I generally always do

Idk I love it and that seems to be the unpopular opinion. But then again there are plenty of posts for it. I'm surprised so many are upset about a single day, lol. Like read a book, lol. Let's have a day of random nonsense on the internet 😜

It's an unpopular opinion in this community, it seems. April's Fools is a fun event, and a lot of people like it, including you and me.

I always enjoy april fools jokes!

Sometimes it'll take a minute for me to catch on, but I always enjoy realizing that something is an April Fools joke

One of my coworkers told everyone to have a great 3 day weekend. I wasn't aware of a 3 day weekend so when I checked the calendar, Monday was April 1st. I thought it was actually a very good prank because I almost believed it. Turned out it really was a 3 day weekend because of Cesar Chavez day so technically, we did get the day off on April Fools.

I'm Dutch, I had the day off today.

Who cares for April Fools besides toddlers and YouTubers anyway?

[–] laughterlaughter@lemmy.world 1 points 7 months ago

I do. It's a fun day. People be grumpy on this thread.

You know the wrong people. Most i get are clever and planned. Or they don't do it at all. My wife's selling hand dyedB yarn & this April's new quality was "Silky Mint" - and guess what: people bought it. 500m floss to knit what? A dentists coat???

When my daughter was about 5 years old, we made an entire dessert dinner for April fools. We made mashed potatoes and scooped them onto the plate like ice cream, and a gravy that looked like chocolate syrup. We made meatloaf in the shape of candy bars, and there was some kind of vegetable thing to but I forget what it was.

It was awesome. When her mom feigned surprise, she let out those deep belly laughs that little kids do.

I'm sure some of you toxic, horrible people don't have fun on April fools, but the rest of us are crushing it.
