How do people look at this sweaty orange face and think “that’s the guy”

[–] Seasoned_Greetings@lemm.ee 36 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

Because they have to. It's decades of conservative media concealing reality finally coming to fruition.

Conservatives genuinely believe democrats are ushering in fascism, because their politicians tell them so constantly. Trump may not be pretty or even coherent, but he offers a perceived anti-establishment position in a country where corruption has clearly (to them) infected every crevice.

They see Trump as their savior. They couldn't be further from the truth. But their media has done untold damage to them and managed to convince them over the span of about 50 years that the US is constantly on the brink of destruction.

Yes, Trump rhetoric is anti-elitist, anti-liberal ultra-nationalist targeted at an empoverished working class. Exactly like national-socialism. And exactly like national-socialism, it's profiting off the contradictions of liberals who pretend to be progressive while upholding inequalities.

Bravo my friend, you've solved the illusion of American politics. Too bad it doesn't matter in this context

Sunk cost fallacy and tribalism.

“He’s everything we’ve ever wanted”

I mean, I'm not really keen on people voting for whoever is the most-physically-attractive, either.

[–] ivanafterall@kbin.social 4 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I do agree on principle. Having said that, don't you just feel it in your bones that George Clooney is meant to be president? Precisely because he looks like he does?

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 9 months ago (2 children)

Not really. But Harrison Ford pulled it off in that plane movie. Him then would be right. Not now.

If anybody can lead this country against an unstoppable invasion, it's Bill Paxton...errr...Pullman. Bill Pullman.

[–] Algaroth@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

Off topic a bit but I've always thought Bill Pullman is both very recognizable and forgettable at the same time.

[–] tal@lemmy.today 2 points 9 months ago

I suppose that if someone never shows their actual face, they could deepfake Harrison Ford at any age. Could have President Han Solo.

[–] ArugulaZ@kbin.social 23 points 9 months ago

And he'll pause the Supreme Court permanently if he gets the reins of power again. "Checks and balances? I won't be needing THOSE as Supreme Leader!"

Best judicial system money can buy, I guess.

Trump seeks whatever will keep him in power and out of jail. Forever. Whatever “next thing” that is should neither be surprising nor newsworthy nor should - at this point - should be the GOP/Nazi’s enablement/defense of it nor everyone on earth’s unmitigated opposition to it/fascism.

the only thing of actual note and consequence which should be considered “news” is reporting on those who either seek to oppose him or those who seek to undermine democracy, free order, and who treasonous oppose the very foundation of this country by being nazis (once, temporarily referred-to as “republicans”).

these Christo-fasist white, cisgender terrorists want everyone who isn’t them murdered on sight. as one can see on the daily news, this is practiced ritualistically by insane religious fanatics against minorities. if you happen to be a Christo-fascist, white femalee (preferable a blood relative, such as a sister or cousin), they will tolerate your life for precisely the length as is necessary to impregnate you and force you to give birth to an inbred (“blood-pure/aryan”) progeny.

so heres the truth of it, kiddies: Trump’s full mask-off, and if we’re gonna keep him from becoming president, we’re gonna have to do whatever it takes.

A guy put a couple of bullets in Kennedy because of some existential threat of “communism”, whatever that meant. what? Cuban cigars and the Mamba? Well, Miami happened anyway, and I’m smoking a Cohiba right now. Ya know what? It’s bitter and dry. I prefer a Romeo & Julieta.

edit: it reminds me of the scene in Strangelove starting here

General: Here, Mr. Ambassador, why don’t you try one of these Jamaican cigars. They’re pretty good."

Russian Ambassador: Thank you, no, I do not support the work of imperialist stooges!”

American General: Oh, only commie stooges, eh?"
