I love the detail and information. I hate the presentation. It may carry more weight if it felt more serious. A thoughtful presentation of the facts is here but you have to wade through comedic delivery. We don’t need another Jon Stewart. We need more discussion from both sides. Ignoring extremists, there are some very wise people in the true liberal and conservative camps. Time to bring them together. Point out the leftists and alt right for being the unreasonable people that they are.

Alt-right: These people want literal genocide.

"Leftists": These people want healthcare and affordable housing and a true living wage and perhaps not to be afraid of dying every time they interact with police.

You : these two extremes are both untenable, there's a compromise here we can all agree on.

You don't come off as enlightened, you come off as ignorant. Edit, yep he's just a regular, cowardly fascist. Honestly I have more respect for the swastika wearing khaki boi than I do for these pitiful little trolls. At least the guy wearing a swastika has the conviction and the balls to say what he actually thinks. He's wrong, he's awful, but at least he isn't a fucking coward too.

Block the guy, reader, he wants to waste your time and energy and frustrate you. That's his goal.

People wearing the mask of "moderate" are usually carrying a shield for the alt-right.

Your definitions, not mine.

Extremes are untenable. There has to be a compromise at some point.

I think your leftist definition is more moderate than mine.

I think many moderates agree on the general premise of what you want, but how to get there will take more work.

I’m far from enlightened, and I’m clearly ignorant for pissing up hill with a reactionary such as yourself.

Good luck. Enjoy your life of suffering and toil.

Haha you're just a coward. You want to be a conservative but you know it isn't popular so you won't just be one. Coward. C. O. W. A. R. D.

Republicans are fascists. You seem to be okay with a little fascism. I'm not. There's our disconnect. Fascism is a deal breaker for me.

Ha! Ok. We're done. You're a fascist troll and I'm blocking you, and you're going to tell yourself that's a win but the reality is it isn't. It isn't a win that you can annoy people with your cowardice until they refuse to waste further time on you.

You need to go take a looonnnggg look in the mirror and ask yourself why you act the way you do. It isn't nobility or wisdom. It isn't respectable. It's cowardly and ignorant and lazy. One day you might grow up and realize that. It isn't gonna be today though.

I don't know what rock you've been under the last couple of decades, but the democratic party has been trying to compromise with the republican party, and only ever gets fucked over for doing so. "Compromise" on the right effectively means 'fuck you, you're voting for what I want or nothing at all', and even then they'll still vote against the compromise.

I want compromises too, but both sides have to be willing to come to the table in good faith, and the republican party hasn't had good faith available since bush, possibly before then

They do present information in an entertainment format, but I don't see that as a bad thing. Cody & Katy do long and deep dives on subjects that might seem rather dry without the jokes and comments interspersed throughout. I think this makes it more, not less, accessible. The important thing to me is that their information is well-sourced and cited, and it is, (links and sources are available under each youtube video.)

I feel like we could use someone to fill the void left by Daily Show era Jon Stewart, as his tone and demeanor has changed a lot in his new show. He seems to be doing more of a serious presentation these days based on what I've seen of The Problem with Jon Stewart.

Great response, thank you.

When you are making fun of the “other side”, whether left or right, it won’t open their eyes and ears to a counterpoint. It gets instantly dismissed. It’s wasted effort IMHO. I want people to listen to all this research and insight.

That’s the crux of my issue with this approach.

[–] brighthurst@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

I'm glad that yours is the top response. Have you also noticed that people on the fediverse seem extreme?

[–] Instigate@aussie.zone 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

While I take your point I would also counter with the point that many people simply do not want to consume information devoid of entertainment. There are large swathes of people who are so beaten-down by societal pressures (work, finances, cost of living, erosion of rights etc) that they don’t have the mental energy to seek out news and information. For these people, mixing important information with entertainment might be the only opportunity they have to be exposed to this information.

Being someone who does seek out unbiased information to inform my opinions, I can still empathise with those who don’t. They also deserve to have this information delivered to them in a manner that they find palatable, as long as the information that is being conveyed is accurate.

[–] b1ab@lem.monster 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Completely agree and understand. I'm just in a situation where I'd like to be able to wield the same great information in a different format. Maybe someone can recommend a different youtube channel. I think thats what I'm ultimately searching for...

[–] Instigate@aussie.zone 1 points 1 year ago

The hard thing is that channels that only provide dry information and no entertainment don’t tend to get many views so they are harder to find and people just give up on making them.
