So funny that countries like Australia and NZ are so high in "democracy." Libs are so smug

No country with a monarchy, no matter how "constitutional parliamentary" it is, can be a democracy lmfao.

Death to ameriKKKa. Death to europe. Complete destruction of the Western Entity.

Citations Needed Episode 25: The Banality of CIA-Curated Definitions of ‘Democracy’

On today's episode, we discuss the limits of democracy rankings, the oft-cited "Polity IV" metric devised by the CIA-funded Center for Systemic Peace, and more

Curious by what metric Portugal is lower than Spain btw.

[–] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 8 points 10 months ago

Whoever made the map assumed it was a colony of Brazil.

Is Portugal relatively uncooperative with American hegenomy or something?

Could be remembering wrong here, but I think maybe they have a somewhat left-ish government?

Tell me how Greece has been "democratizing" despite a deterioration in press freedom and the goverment spying on journalists and opposition leaders.

SYRIZA lost power, that is essentially all it took

The real test here is Singapore.

You would think that El Salavador with his buttcoin miner fascist president would be upper in the list by now. Must be an old map or something.

Why do y'all think Bukele is fascist? The mandate of his presidency has been to fight corruption at all levels of government. Both FMLN and ARENA are in the pocket of MS13 and 18. Which, may I remind you, were gangs created in the diaspora that were mass deported from the US to SV shortly after the end of El Salvador's civil war in 1991. They are the reason why SV has had the highest intentional homicide rate in the world for the last 30 years. Bukele came up through the ranks of FMLN and eventually split off to form his new Nuevas Ideas party which is extremely popular.

I understand being critical of the extremely high incarceration rate after "Operation Territorial Control", but the most recent news I have is that all of the inmates that don't qualify for maximum security have the option to work off their sentences by volunteering for public works. New hospitals, schools, &c. Cleaning up graffiti and generally repairing the damage done by 30 years of gang occupation.

Then again, he did topple a statue of Che Guevara so he must be a baddie and the US is very upset about what he's been doing. Especially with the opposition trying to get the Yankee's involved at every step.

I'm open to changing my mind, but I think Bukele delivering on his anti corruption measures has been good for the country and his administration has invested heavily in public infrastructure and services. His approval rating is extremely high as a result. At least its good in comparison to gangs being in bed with the government, ya feel?
