Anyone who doesn’t believe Elon is taking Twitter on purpose is a fucking moron.

For a moment there, it looked like predictors of twitters final demise were going to be proven wrong - or would at least have trouble making a clear distinction in light of how durable twitter has been. Instead Musk is about to toss brand loyalty in the trash and paint a clear line for before-musk, after-musk. No version that succeeds twitter will ever be the twitter that rose to success, but now even a layperson will know the difference . May as well be an obituary.

Didn't knew Elon was such a fan of X11

Might as well put a placeholder in for the logo. Seems like Twitter is well on it's way towards being sold to Truth Social or some other neo-Nazi organization.

For the record, I deactivated my account yesterday. 4,000 followers over the past few years, but it was time.

Yep, the name and branding were the problem. Nailed it!

I think à "Y" would carry the brand's new direction better.

Sweet of him to name it after one of his children.

Wont there be a trademark problem with Xorg? It's too similar in terms of name and logo

I guess X Æ A-12 was already taken so he went with X.

So he bought the users and is hoping some of them stay while he rebrands? Or he genuinely just wants to destroy Twitter? I just have no idea what this man is doing, but perhaps he'll prove us all wrong and show that he really is a genius in a five years?

He’s been playing up the idea of “the everything app” and X/x.com for decades. It’s actually what he wanted PayPal to be before they kicked him out. Theil is the one that refocused X.com and rebranded to make PayPal be what PayPal is today.
